Three years after it unveiled a 20 million venture capital fund aimed at bolstering film and TV series, Chile-based Screen Capital has introduced a second investment fund, Screen II, which will support projects in the digital entertainment arena: Video games, Virtual Reality, Ott platforms, Extended Reality (Xr), apps etc.
Screen Capital is co-founded by former Chile Film Commissioner Joyce Zylberberg and Tatiana Emden, who once headed Chile’s Development Fund, and has among its key partners, Edgar Spielmann, ex-vp and COO of Fox Networks Group Latin America.
The Screen II investment fund is backed by a mix of public and private sector investors, the latter led by Mexican producer Alex Garcia of Ag Studios, who has invested in a slew of film, TV, music and tech projects in the past years.
“It was a natural step for me given all that I have worked on in the past,” he told Variety.

Location shooting is underway for “Finding Love in Sisters,” which features a cast with about one million followers apiece on social media: Puerto Rican-born Laura Carmine, Miami-based Marielena Dávila and U.K. model-actor Nick Hounslow.
“Finding Love in Sisters” follows drama “Finding Love in San Antonio,” co-produced by leading indie production shingle Btf Media and L.A.-based American Cinema Inspires (Aci), which teamed up last year to develop and produce films with predominantly U.S. Latino talent.
Written by D.F.W. Buckingham (“Finding Love in San Antonio”) and helmed by Jeff Day (“Midway Love”), the romantic drama centers on Esperanza (Carmine), a successful lawyer whose dream life is showing some cracks. Her mother suggests she visit their hometown of Sisters, Oregon to get recharged but she chooses to stay at her job. The 2nd Iberseries & Platino Industria in Madrid has lured a large number of top showrunners and TV execs to participate in the annual event’s multiple panels over Sept. 27-30. The intense and extensive program of some 40 conferences and keynote addresses include discussions on animation, financing, creativity and talent, education, sports, artificial intelligence and platforms, among others.
Launched last year, Iberseries is conceived as an exclusive space for the intersection between business and creative talent, as well as the exchange of ideas, projects, financing and co-production opportunities among the growing ranks of the Ibero-American TV industry.
During four jampacked days, Iberseries & Platino Industria will host screenings, pitching sessions, workshops, one-on-one sessions aside from these conferences. By early September, more than 1,000 participants signed up for the mostly in-person event. Last year’s inaugural edition boasted 2,000 participants but half connected virtually, Iberseries director Samuel Castro pointed out. Some of these panels will...

After 13 years on the road with Spain’s iconic singer-songwriter-poet Joaquin Sabina, “The Good Boss” director Fernando León de Aranoa has finally wrapped his documentary, “Sintiendolo Mucho” (roughly translated to “Deeply Felt”).
“This film is a rare privilege that, as a filmmaker, I would like to share with the public: to spend some time alone with Joaquín when he is not Sabina,” said León de Aranoa. “13 years ago, I began to shoot with him, to accompany him on his day-to-day activities, on rehearsals, tours, immersed in his own environment… to portray the artist, his best and worst moments, and his personality, so linked to his work, his creativity,” he remarked, adding: “Most importantly, it has been a lot of fun.”
León de Aranoa, who also produced the doc, established a deep rapport with Sabina through the years.

Miami-based Btf Media and Loz Dos Studios, a Latinx production studio, are jumping on the Marilyn Monroe bandwagon, with a still untitled biopic in the works that promises an untold look at the iconic movie star’s Latina heritage and one of her final trips to Mexico. Details of the script are drawn from released FBI documents, obtained through the Freedom of Information Act.
The upcoming project will be another addition to the pantheon of film and TV projects that have proliferated through the years since Monroe’s untimely death in 1962, with the latest being Netflix docu “The Mystery of Marilyn Monroe: The Unheard Tapes” and the upcoming Nc-17-rated drama “Blonde,” starring Ana de Armas, that is slated for release this year on the giant streamer.
Btf Media founders Francisco Cordero and Ricardo Coeto are partnering with Dennis Polar from Loz Dos Studios to co-produce the film inspired by the life of Monroe.

Few productions set to air in 2022 promise the emotional impact and political urgency of “La Vida de Nosotras,” which translates to “Our Lives” in English, a five-part short-form series telling the true stories of 16 women – three or four per episode – who suffered from, fell victim to or overcame patriarchal violence.
Up-and-coming director Bárbara Barrera Morales directs all five of the series’ episodes, produced by International Emmy-winning filmmaker Hernán Caffiero and Btf Media co-founders Francisco Cordero and Ricardo Coeto. In fact, much of the film’s technical crew worked together on Caffiero’s Emmy-nominated series “Una Historia Necesaria.”
“La Vida de Nosotras” boasts an impressive cast in front of the camera as well, including cinema standouts such as “The Maid” lead Catalina Saacedra; Alejando Goic, who starred in Pablo Larraín’s Berlin Jury Prize-winner “The Club”; “Violeta Went to Heaven’s” Francisca Gavilan; and Amparo Noguera, who recently starred in “La Jauria,...

In a move aimed at powering up more content for the massive U.S. Hispanic market and beyond, leading indie production shingle Btf Media has teamed up with L.A.-based American Cinema Inspires (Aci) to develop and produce a slew of Hispanic productions with predominantly U.S. Latino talent.
Leading the vanguard is Sandra Martin’s “Finding Love in San Antonio,” which follows Adela, a successful Latina chef in L.A. (played by Valentina Izarra), who is offered a plum job at a new network series that will send her across Europe. While visiting San Antonio, she meets David (George Akram), a local food writer who wrote a blistering piece about her. Their unlikely romance will lead to Adela’s rediscovery of her hometown and force her to decide whether she should stay in San Antonio or accept the once-in-a-lifetime job offer.

Btf Media and Madrid-based IP management company TheMadMediaCo announced on Tuesday, as Iberseries Platino Industria geared up in Madrid, that they are teaming to co-develop and co-produce Argentine true crime non-fiction novel “Magnetized” (“Magnetizado”).
In an instance which shows how IP deals are scaling up, the adaptation will be made across a range of media, formats and markets. First up is a podcast, to be followed shortly by a TV fiction series and docuseries.
The final book published by Busqued after a short but brilliant career before he died of a heart attack on March 29, “Magnetized” is hailed as one of the most original, chilling and unclassifiable of Latin America non-fiction novels.
That comes with the material and Busqued’s treatment of it. “Magnetized” is based on Busqued’s 90 hours of recorded conversation with psychiatric ward inmate Ricardo Melogno decades after Melogno, then a 20-year-old, killed four taxi drivers in...

Btf Media announced Friday that it is launching Btf Megaseries, a new production unit dedicated to long-form series which will bring to the international marketplaces several new fiction format proposals.
According to Btf, a megaseries is any fiction drama series of more than 26 episodes. The new unit was developed and established by Btf Media founders Ricardo Coeto and Francisco Cordero.
As broadcasters and streaming platforms continue to migrate towards high-end, short form drama series, a significant base of potential subscribers is being neglected, particularly fans of more traditional, long-form TV series which are still among the most-watched programming in Latin America, Turkey, South Korea and other territories.
“At Btf Media we firmly believe that the world of content is cyclical. That is why we have decided to create production units dedicated to the development and production of fiction formats of between 26 and 60 hours of content,” explained Coeto. “In addition, we...

Latin American powerhouse Btf Media and Mexico’s Morbido Group have initiated principal photography in Mexico City on “La Exorcista,” a new feature hailing from famed genre director Adrían García Bogliano and starring María Evoli.
The film marks another expansive move by Btf as it drivbes into feature film production, building on its roster of high-level series such as “Hasta que te conocí” and “El César.” “La Exorcista” also represents Evoli’s highest-profile starring role since she burst onto the scene five years ago in Emiliano Rocha Minter’s “We Are the Flesh,” which was endorsed by Alejandro González Iñarritu and Alfonso Cuarón.
“La Exorcista” is directed by the versatile Bogliano, a founding father of the modern Argentine horror scene. Chile’s Btf Media has unveiled its next project, “El Estallido,” a six-part docuseries telling the story of young psychology student Gustavo Gatica, who lost both of his eyes after being shot twice with rubber bullets by the Chilean police while participating in the social uprising in Santiago in October 2019. In anticipation of pitching the series at this year’s MipTV, Btf has released a first international teaser featuring Gustavo and his brother Enrique.
Hernán Caffiero, director and producer of 2018’s International Emmy-winning “The Suspended Mourning,” will head the series with executive producers Ricardo Coeto and Francisco Cordero. “El Estallido” will enlist academics, analysts and experts in social behavior to examine the circumstances which lead to the massive demonstrations that overtook the entire country in 2019.
Key to the series’ narrative is the relationship between Gustavo and Enrique, with Enrique narrating the series, as he does in the teaser. The history...

Miami-based Btf Media, celebrating its 10th anniversary this year, is planning a series reboot for Fabián Bielinsky’s Argentine modern classic “Nine Queens” (“Nueve Reinas”), a feature film which 20 years ago introduced the world to one of Argentina’s most bankable actors in Ricardo Darín and film-tv crossover superstar Gastón Pauls.
It also established, just as the New Argentine Cinema was lifting off in the country, a crossover style of movie which could combine artistic ambition and genre heft to appeal to broad audiences at home and abroad, a filmic mode inherited by Juan José Campanella and Pablo Trapero among others.
The announcement is the latest in what could prove a trend for the company, as earlier this year Btf Media also secured the remake rights to Alejandro Amenabar’s Golden Globe-nominated “The Others,” starring Nicole Kidman, and are planning a Spanish-language series version of the horror classic.

Nearly 20 years after its stunning 2001 debut, Alejandro Amenabar’s horror classic “The Others” is set to have a Spanish-language TV series spin-off.
Miami-based Btf Media has snagged the series format rights from FilmSharks subsidiary the Remake Co. and Enrique Cerezo’s Video Mercury Films.
In the original, WWII is coming to an end and a mother, played by Nicole Kidman, is anxious to protect her photosensitive children in a gloomy, isolated mansion while she waits for her husband to return from battle in France. The arrival of three enigmatic servants reveals some unexpected and chilling secrets.
The gothic film grossed more than $200 million worldwide, garnering a clutch of nominations and awards, including a Golden Globe actress nomination for Kidman and several Goya awards, including best film.
Btf founders Ricardo Coeto and Francisco Cordero will produce the series while FilmSharks’ Guido Rud and Cerezo executive produce.

One of the fastest-expanding companies on the Spanish-language drama series scene, Btf Media, is teaming with Argentina-based author-historian Uki Goñi on one of Bft Media’s biggest titles ever, a small screen makeover of Goñi’s most celebrated work: “The Real Odessa: Smuggling the Nazis to Perón’s Argentina.”
Based on Goñi’s research and access to Argentine, Swiss, American, British, and Belgian government archives, the series will double down of how Nazis found safe haven in Argentina. That came thanks to Argentine President Juan Perón and, most shockingly, as the incipient Cold War reshaped government priorities, the collusion of both the Catholic Church and Allied intelligence agencies who provided escape routes – ratlines – and sanctuary for war criminals.
“We are extremely satisfied to announce this agreement. Uki is an extraordinary writer and his research has had wide repercussion in those countries that collaborated with Nazi criminals in their escape”, said Ivonne Vela,...

“At Btf we have always believed in the importance of diversity. That is why it is a priority for us to continue expanding the spectrum of opportunities to more women within industry,” said Ivonne Vela, communication coordinator at Btf Media.
