San Francisco, Dec 27 (Ians) The US government pressured Twitter to elevate certain Covid-19 information and suppress other content, while the platform suspended reputed medical professionals who disagreed with establishment views during the peak of the pandemic, new ‘Twitter Files’ have alleged.
Independent journalist David Zweig released the new ‘Twitter Files’ on how the micro-blogging platform “rigged the Covid debate”, and relied on bots and third-party contractors to moderate Covid-related topics.
“Twitter censored information that was true but inconvenient to the US government policy, discredited doctors and other experts who disagreed and suppressed ordinary users, including some sharing the CDC’s own data,” alleged Zweig.
According to him, both the incumbent Joe Biden and former Donald Trump administrations pressured Twitter and other tech giants like Google, Facebook and Microsoft to disseminate Covid information.

Denzel Washington was absent from the Presidential Medal of Freedom Ceremony on Thursday due to a positive Covid-19 diagnosis, Washington’s representative confirmed to TheWrap.
Washington, who was slated to be honored at Thursday’s ceremony along with 16 other people, including gymnast Simone Biles and soccer star Megan Rapinoe, will receive the award at a later date.
“There’s a man who couldn’t be here today but wanted to be: Denzel Washington, one of our greatest actors in American history. Academy Awards, Golden Globes, Tony Awards, (and) wide acclaim from audiences and peers around the world,” President Biden said. “He couldn’t be here with us today, but I’ll be giving him this award at a later date when he’s able to get here.”

Fox News hosts have once again been struck with an outbreak of Reefer Madness, an illness characterized by an urge to blame cannabis use for various unrelated social ills. The latest flare-up was triggered by the Republican Party’s need to deflect public attention away from gun control after a seemingly endless string of mass shootings in the United States.

Tucker Carlson on Tuesday night hosted former New York Times reporter and current coronavirus conspiracy theorist Alex Berenson on Tucker Carlson Tonight, which averages 3.2 million viewers a night and is the most-watched show on cable news.
Berenson was given free rein to spout his views on vaccines. “I think this is probably the most important appearance I’ve had with you in the past two years,” he said
“The mRNA Covid vaccines need to be withdrawn from the market now,” he went on. “No one should get them. No one should get boosted.

Alex Berenson, a Covid skeptic and anti-masker who regularly appears on Fox News to discuss the pandemic, was dragged on Twitter Tuesday for an old tweet in which he dismissed a projected death toll that turned out to be right.
“I don’t normally tweet my @FoxNews appearances but this one is vital: @IHME_UW [Institute for Health Metrics and Evaluation] has been wrong over and over — why would anyone credit or repeat its projection of 500,000 US #Covid deaths by spring?” Berenson wrote last October.
It’s not yet spring, and the American Covid-19 death toll is already over 525,000, surpassing Imhe’s projection from last year.
Media Matters’ Andrew Lawrence expressed frustration with Berenson on Tuesday, writing, “Just no repercussions in conservative media for being this spectacularly wrong… this guy was on Fox last night casting doubt on the vaccine.”
Indeed, Berenson has been tweeting skepticism about Covid-19 vaccines, too. The author and former New York...

The Flaming Lips will celebrate the 20th anniversary of their 1999 masterpiece The Soft Bulletin with a limited edition vinyl reissue this October.
The 2-lp reissue, released exclusively through subscription service Vinyl Me, Please and pressed on mustard yellow, preserves the album’s original 13-song vinyl track list – including the track “Slow Motion,” omitted from the U.S. CD release – and is accompanied by a new art print designed by frontman Wayne Coyne.
“The Soft Bulletin is a record that’s always with us… and we’re always considering it… we’re always playing it…...

As the push to legalize cannabis nationwide continues to gain ground — a record 61 percent of Americans support U.S.-wide weed legalization — those opposed to marijuana reform are doubling down, in part by citing research pointing to the health risks associated with daily cannabis consumption. The latest entry in that genre of research: a new study from The Lancet Psychiatry journal, which suggests that there may be a correlation between daily marijuana use and psychosis.
The authors of the study assessed more than 900 people in multiple European cities, all of...

In the past week, there’s been a flurry of media coverage around a new book called Tell Your Children: The Truth About Marijuana, Mental Illness, and Violence. One of the main points is that legalization is a terrible idea, because legal pot is already causing more people to become schizophrenic and psychotic, and people who are schizophrenic and psychotic are more likely to commit violent crimes. Alex Berenson, the book’s author — a former journalist who spent the past decade or so writing mysteries and thriller novels — landed plum...
