Jocelyn Alive
- Actress
Jocelyn's love of performing can be traced to her upbringing. Born to performing artist parents, her home-found attachment to being onstage was inevitable. At 10 she began teaching her mother's choreography in community musical theatre. By 13 she was a scholarship ballet student at the University of North Carolina's School of the Arts, coming home in summer to indulge in her first love, theatre. Jocelyn began writing songs as a teen. When she moved to New York City, she began performing her original music at venues such as the iconic Café Siné, and found a musical home on the Lower East Side at The Fort at Sidewalk Café. There she was touted for her raw honesty in performance, and ability to bring the house down with her spirited original a cappella songs. In 2002, Jocelyn moved to San Francisco, where she continued her music career both as solo artist and lead singer of Neon Anyway.
In 2012, Jocelyn found her way to Leela improv school's Monday night drop in class. Excited by the form's creative spontaneity, she was inspired by Leela Artistic Director and self-proclaimed femproviser Jill Eickmann's focus on truth in play. Jocelyn joined Leela's Performing Improv Ensemble (P.I.E.) program in 2013. She has completed three terms, and performed with troupes Robots to Rebels and the all-women True Medusa.
In mid-2013, after auditioning for a film role in which she had to improvise in a bedroom scene, she came up with the idea for The Unwritten Bedroom duo. She asked friend and fellow Leela student Bennett Chabot to explore the idea. And they've been in bed together ever since.
