Genndy Tartakovsky has created some of the most iconic animated shows of the 2000s. He is the mind behind hit animated shows such as Samurai Jack and The Powerpuff Girls. Tartakovsky’s most recent creation, Primal also has received critical acclaim. However, Tartakovsky was once developing a Superman series that never came to pass.

Genndy Tartakovsky says all animators are not good enough with their work like him. In a recent interview, Tartakovsky gave a few pointers on why animators end up coming nowhere near him in their animated projects. Coming from the Unicorn: Warriors Eternal creator, who has explored the field for nearly three decades, these pointers make for a great lesson in animation.

Below, Gordon shares a deeply personal curation of eight films that influence and reflect audio, visual art, and personal style. While best known as a musician and cofounding member of Sonic Youth, Gordon’s art has long stretched into multiple other disciplines, with film being just one.

2024 marks 20 years since Ubisoft’s Far Cry series entered the fray. The franchise’s memorable antagonists were one of the key ingredients to its success. Each game boasts a unique villain, from Far Cry 4‘s ruthlessly charming Pagan Min to the fanatical Seed family of Far Cry 5. Ubisoft has consistently delivered captivating villains in its Far Cry games, but how have they fared over the years? And with two new Far Cry projects on the horizon, which prior villain should they strive to surpass? We take a look back at every Far Cry antagonist, and see who comes out on top.

Indie production shop The Exchange, also known as Bos Entertainment, is suing Wonderfilm for breach of contract related to their partnership on Harvey Keitel and Tyrese Gibson-starrer Hard Matter, which appears to be stuck in limbo for failure to pay a visual effects vendor.
The lawsuit filed on Tuesday in California federal court arrives in the wake of an investor in the movie — which was allegedly led to believe it was financing a Mel Gibson-led film only for the project to never get finished due to a lack of funds — accusing Wonderfilm of swindling it out of more than $5 million. The Exchange, in turn, is looking to distance itself from the company and Wonderfilm principals Bret Saxon and Jeff Bowler. It claims that it had no part in the alleged scheme and that it was defrauded since Wonderfilm failed to secure insurance for the movie.

Indie production shop Wonderfilm has been sued for fraud and breach of contract in a lawsuit accusing the company and its directors of swindling an investor — which was allegedly led to believe it was financing a Mel Gibson-led film only for the project to never get finished due to a lack of funds — out of more than $5 million.
Investor Gridiron Productions alleges fraud in a lawsuit claiming Wonderfilm principals Bret Saxon and Jeff Bowler changed the terms of contracts to pay themselves exorbitant salaries on top of exaggerating the budget for the movie, with the goal of making it for less and pocketing the difference.
The lawsuit filed on Sept. 12 in California federal court mirrors claims made in other legal actions against Saxon. According to a review of court records by The Hollywood Reporter, he was named in 2011 in a series of complaints accusing him of operating a “ponzi scheme,...

Comic-Con International kicked off last week at the San Diego Convention Center with fewer actors and writers than anticipated.
As usual, the convention was filled with famous comic characters, including Optimus Prime from The Transformers and Optimus Primal from Transformers: Rise of the Beasts.
Although the event continued its typical flow, it was missing many other characters and famous faces attendees would have had the opportunity to meet.
Last month, in abiding by the strikes by the Writers Guild of America (WGA) and the Screen Actors Guild — American Federation of Television and Radio Artists (SAG-AFTRA), most media companies were reportedly bowing out of the 2023 San Diego Comic-Con (Sdcc). Those companies include Universal Pictures, Marvel Studios, Lucasfilm, Sony Pictures and Netflix.
Marvel Studios made an appearance, but not without noticeable absences. Instead of the usual presenters (who often are actors or writers), some of the usual panels, with some led by current and former editors-in-chief,...

With the release of Transformers: Rise of the Beasts, the seventh overall movie of the Transformers live-action franchise, the world-building moves to a new arena as lesser-known factions like Maximals, Predacons, and Terrorcons are introduced. Along with them, another important character also gets introduced, for whom long-time fans have been waiting eagerly: the planet-devouring mechanical monstrosity, Unicron. While at first glance, the character might seem like another tank-type villain like Galactus from Marvel comics, his influence, and significance in the Transformers lore run deeper than that. With Unicron’s introduction, the mechanism known as the Transwarp Key has also been brought into play, and we will take a quick look at both of their significance in the larger world-building process.

After the mind-numbingly frustrating Bayverse Transformers movie franchise ran its course through exactly a decade, the first movie of the prequel series Bumblebee presented itself as a much-needed breath of fresh air by engaging with the more grounded aspects of human-Cybertronian interactions. Its much-anticipated sequel, Transformers: Rise of the Beasts, has been released worldwide and, from the looks of it, has done a decent job of expanding the world-building in a cohesive manner, at the cost of the previous flick’s grounded nature.
Even after being surrounded by big summer blockbuster releases, expectations with this entry were high because of the lore exploration through the introduction of beloved key factions like Maximals, something that long-time franchise fans were waiting to see in live action. And even though their appearance was somewhat limited in the second half, enough plot points have been provided to speculate on the possible course to be taken in future ventures.

Martin Duffy, who played keyboard in Primal Scream, Felt, and Charlatans, died late last year at the age of 55 from injuries he sustained after falling in his home. Now, Duffy’s 19-year-old son, Louie, has accused his father’s former Primal Scream bandmates Bobby Gillespie and Andrew Innes of financial impropriety that left his father in financial ruin.
Louie Duffy made the allegations in a witness statement submitted to the West Sussex, Brighton and Hove Coroner as part of their inquest into his father’s death. Louie claimed that though Martin was initially an equal member of Primal Scream in the early 1990s, “he was gradually cut out from getting any songwriting credits, then touring and merchandise profits, eventually just being paid per gig.” Louie said that his father earned around £40k a year for playing with Primal Scream.

The early “Transformers” films — in fact, just about all the “Transformers” films — were two things at once. They were industrial showroom expos of chop-shop magicianship, with cars and trucks and motorcycles turning themselves inside out, their guts flipping as if a trash compactor had exploded into bits and pieces, only to reassemble themselves into towering robots. The spectacle of those gigantic shape-shifting droids is something that I, more than a lot of critics, always found to be fun. But, of course, the “Transformers” movies were also unrestrained pileups of sheer Michael Bay-ness — kiddie diversion on processed steroids. The plots sprawled all over the place yet somehow never mattered; the films went on way too long; the endless clashing titans made you yearn for the human nuance of a “Godzilla” movie.

Paramount Pictures is transforming everyone’s Thursday into a Hype Train by dropping a Transformers: Rise of the Beasts trailer. Inspired by the Beast Wars line of Transformers toys, the plot features giant robots that turn into mechanical animals instead of vehicles. Steven Caple Jr. directs from a screenplay by Joby Harold, Darnell Metayer, and Josh Peters. The upcoming film includes an ’80s backdrop and looks to follow the Bumblebee timeline.
In the Transformers: Rise of the Beasts teaser trailer, Optimus Prime encounters Optimus Primal in a forest. After the duo exchange greetings, Primal informs Prime that a new threat is coming, and there are dark times ahead for the people of Earth. As the footage continues, we see Transformers of all types going to war, the inventive new tech on display, and robot-on-robot action that won’t be a black mark on your Google search history.
