Matthew J. Schroeder grew up in the scenic wilderness of Wisconsin, developing a love of sports, the outdoors, and movies. Schroeder was a dynamic athlete that participated in football, basketball, baseball, and track & field in high school, which lead to a wide range of interests from Division 1 universities. During his senior, Schroeder made the decision to follow in his familial footsteps and joined the military, knowing fully that college athletics provided no guarantee for the future. Within a few years Schroeder's military career was cut short because of injuries, and he bounced around the United States working odd jobs. During this time, Schroeder also began participating in no holds barred fights to help pay the bills and capitalize on his athletic abilities.
In 2001, Schroeder decided to shift his attention to the journey of higher education, with the hope of further pursing a military career through ROTC, as well as, the goal of becoming a high school teacher and coach. ROTC turned out to be a short road to nowhere, as Schroeder's extensive medical history was reexamined, but he was subsequently given an opportunity to play Division III basketball while continuing his academic pursuits. Unfortunately, Schroeder's medical issues continued, and injuries derailed his collegiate athletic aspirations. Ever the realist, Schroeder left his collegiate athletic pursuits behind and returned to training in kickboxing and mixed martial arts, as well as becoming more involved in a coaching basketball. These opportunities allowed Schroeder to continue developing his craft and to become more passionate about the arts, specifically filmmaking.
