Exclusive: After six years as a manager at More/Medavoy, Stephen Belden is going it alone, having launched his own management and production company, Death Wish Entertainment.
“The dream,” Belden said, “has always been to work with a core group of clients that I absolutely adore as artists and as human beings and to be able to produce projects with and for those clients. With this company I get to focus on exactly that and I couldn’t be more excited.”
Belden explained that the name Death Wish is “a tongue-in-cheek nod to the fact that it’s harder than ever to be working in the entertainment industry right now,” underscoring at the same time that he “couldn’t be more optimistic about what the future holds for the up and coming generation of actors, writers, directors, and producers that I work with.”
Additionally, he expressed his gratitude to those at his former company.

The CW is spicing up its lineup with an exciting twist on the classic Sherlock Holmes saga. They’re rolling out ‘Sherlock & Daughter,’ a fresh take that pairs the iconic detective with an unexpected partner – his possible daughter. David Thewlis steps into Sherlock’s shoes, while Blu Hunt plays Amelia, the young American who might just be his offspring. After the mysterious murder of her mother, Amelia discovers her father could be the legendary sleuth himself. Together, they dive into a whirlwind of global conspiracies and personal mysteries.
According to Deadline, the series is not just about crime-solving. It’s about the dynamic between two very different characters thrown together by fate. Dougray Scott adds to the excitement as Moriarty, Holmes’ arch-nemesis, ensures the stakes are always high. ‘Sherlock & Daughter’ isn’t your typical detective show; it’s about family, mystery, and the clash of cultures.

The New Sherlock Holmes In Sherlock & Daughter Series (Picture Credit: Facebook)
Many people worldwide are waiting for an update on Sherlock Season 5. The British mystery crime series stars Benedict Cumberbatch and Martin Freeman in the lead roles. The last season was premiered in 2017. Many have come to acceptance that there won’t be a fifth season. Well, chances are that’s true. But The CW has announced a spin-off series titled Sherlock & Daughter, which might excite the fans of the fictional detective.
As reported by Deadline, the series will have Sherlock, a young girl named Amelia, as his daughter and even Moriarty. So it’s not going to be a melodramatic father-daughter series. The premise will be about a young American girl, Amelia, arriving in London after her mother’s murder. She learns that her father is a famous detective. Big news for fans of All American and Walker!
The CW announced its spring slate of shows today, and both series will be returning to our screens sooner than expected.
All American is the CW's most-watched show, so it was no surprise that the announcement began with an update on the network's popular football drama.
The saga of star wide receiver Spencer James is set to return for its sixth season on April 1.
Today's announcement did not provide any details about the new season's plot, but it did confirm All American's status as the network’s #1 series among Adults 18-49, the most watched series on digital, and had the largest total audience across all platforms.
So yeah, execs might be even more excited about the return of All American than the show's fans are.

As the Native American star of a major Hollywood movie, Killers of the Flower Moon’s leading lady Lily Gladstone will be in rare company, but just how rare?
That’s what the Annenberg Inclusion Initiative set out to analyze in its latest research brief, using its long-running data collection on the 100 highest-grossing theatrical movies from 2007 to 2022. The group found that among those 1,600 films, there was just one Native American lead character: Dani Moonstar, played by Blu Hunt, from the 2020 superhero ensemble film The New Mutants. (The 2022 sleeper hit Prey, starring Amber Midthunder as a young Comanche woman who singlehandedly defeats the Predator, received a streaming-only domestic release and as such was not included in the research.)
Native Americans represent just 1.3% of the real-life population, according to the U.S. Census, and even less onscreen (0.25% — not 25%, but 0.25% — of speaking characters). What’s more, only 99 of these 133 Native American movie roles...

Exclusive: Fox is moving past The Last Police. Deadline understands that the network has passed on the Kyle Killen pilot.
Based on Ben Winters’ sci-fi mystery novel The Last Policeman, the network ordered the pilot in July. It was written, directed and exec produced by the Lone Star and Awake creator via his Chapter Eleven production banner and came after he struck a direct, exclusive, broadcast-only talent deal with Fox in 2020.
The Last Police follows a small-town police detective, who, as an asteroid races toward an apocalyptic collision with Earth, believes she’s been chosen to save humanity, while her cynical partner can’t decide what he’ll enjoy more: her delusional failure, or the end of the world itself.
Blu Hunt (The New Mutants) and Reno Wilson (Good Girls) played the leads; Hunt was Detective MacKenzie Ward, a sharp young police detective who believes she was chosen for a...

LGBTQ characters appeared in a higher percentage of films in 2020 than ever before, according to a new study from GLAAD. The study also found more of those characters were people of color, and more of them than ever had a substantial amount of screen time.
GLAAD’s annual Studio Responsibility Index found that of 44 films from eight major studios released throughout 2020, 10 of them, or 22.7%, had characters who identified as gay, lesbian, bisexual or queer. That percentage is up from 2019, in which only 18.6% had LGBTQ characters.
But for the fourth year in a row, GLAAD found that transgender characters and non-binary characters were completely absent from major studio theatrical releases, with the organization saying that the film industry greatly lags behind TV when it comes to representation in this regard.

ABC is making some decisions about its remaining pilots, and it's bad news for three promising ideas.
Kevin Costner-executive produced National Parks Investigation, Triage, and Dark Horse are no longer moving ahead at the network.
The good news is that National Parks Investigation and Dark Horse are both being shopped to other outlets, but the jury is out on whether Triage will be shopped.
National Parks follows the elite special agents of the Investigative Services Branch who are tasked with solving the most complex and heinous crimes committed within the diverse and majestic National Parks of the Isb’s Pacific West region.
The cast included Billy Cambell, Angel Parker, Gerardo Celasco, Ashlei Sharpe Chestnut, Blu Hunt, Tiffany Dupont, and Guillermo Diaz.
Something tells us this one would serve as a good companion to Yellowstone over on Paramount.

The cast included Billy Campbell, Angel Parker, Guillermo Diaz, Tiffany Dupont, Ashlei Sharpe Chestnut, Blu Hunt, Gerardo Celasco. Along with Costner, the show was written and executive produced by Aaron Helbing and Jon Baird. It’s been a busy day at ABC.
The network has handed series pickups to pilots The Wonder Years, Queens, Maggie and Abbott Elementary and passed on pilots including Sam Esmail’s Acts of Crime and comedies Black Don’t Crack and Bucktown.
But there are five pilots that are still in consideration for the 2021-22 broadcast season, including Kevin Costner’s National Parks Investigation, that will be considered for midseason.
These also include Dark Horse, Epic, Promised Land and Triage.
Dark Hose, Epic and Promised Land have yet to be filmed and will be considered after the upfronts, while the off-cycle Triage pilot was produced and went through a rollercoaster ride of a poorly received first cut, highly testing second cut and so-so screening response. National Parks Investigation was considered a wildcard for fall consideration but a final, broadcast-length cut of the pilot, was not delivered in time.

This article contains New Mutants spoilers.
Ah, the sorry tale of the New Mutants movie. Completed just as Disney absorbed 20th Century Fox, Josh Boone’s horror-tinged YA X-Men flick never got its promised reshoots, was shelved, had its release date kicked around the calendar – first by an indifferent studio and then by the pandemic – before finally arriving with a whimper in limited theatrical release earlier this fall and (finally) on streaming last week. Like its troubled young characters, New Mutants bears the scars of its difficult past, and then gets saddled with the added burden of being neither a true coda to 20 years of Fox’s X-Men movies (last year’s rightfully maligned Dark Phoenix got that “honor”) nor is it vivid or exciting enough to be considered a way to potentially kickstart mutants into the McU.

This article contains mild The New Mutants spoilers.
The New Mutants is an odd duck. The writing was on the wall back in 2017 when 20th Century Fox first pushed the film off its original 2018 release window. Apparently the delay was the result of the studio wanting to make it more of a horror movie via reshoots… reshoots that then never happened.
Even so, those horror elements are still on bonkers display in Josh Boone’s final cut of the film, now available on Blu-ray and VOD. Even without knowing Boone was vocal that the Nightmare on Elm Street movies were cornerstone influences, it’s clear his mutant mayhem wants to live on the same block.
To be sure, these aspects are more muted than they should be, which is the result of the film’s biggest problem: tonal inconsistency. New Mutants veers wildly between young adult drama, youthful hijinks, and...

The New Mutants will soon stream and spin at homes in the very-near future. While many speculated that this news would precede the recent move by studios Fox and Disney to release the film at theaters, it does signal the end of an era—especially for those of us who have spent the past 3+ years covering it—since the film will likely go down in history as having faced one of the hardest roads to a release, perhaps ever.
20th Century Fox will, at long last, release The New Mutants on Digital HD and Blu-ray on Tuesday, November 17. The Marvel Comics adaptation film, directed by Josh Boone (The Fault in Our Stars), who co-wrote the script with Knate Lee, became one of the few post Q1 2020 movies that saw a big screen release, having hit theaters on August 28; a run that currently tallies at $42 million worldwide, obviously impeded by the...

Excelsior Marvel “Movie-Verse” Maniacs! Going through some strong bouts of “cold turkey”, since it’s been over a year since your last “film fix” (seems like an eternity since Spidey was Far From Home)? By this time we’ve gotten at least two treks to that home of fast-paced fun adventures. They’re still insisting that we’ll see the Black Widow “prequel’ (or would “flashback fable’ be more on the nose) before the end of this year. Well, the first real studio film to play in theatres (and lots of drive-ins) since many of them re-opened on August 28 isn’t technically a Marvel Studios film, but (as shown in most ads and in its opening seconds) rather it’s “in association with Marvel”. That’s because it’s a “spin-off” of the X-Men franchise, which has been licensed to Twentieth Century Fox (‘member them) for just over twenty years.

Warner Bros’ Tenet ruled again in its second weekend while Disney’s The New Mutants opened meekly as the long, slow road to recovery for Australian cinemas continues.
The convoluted time-travel/spy thriller directed by Christopher Nolan rang up $1.6 million on a super-wide 748 screens, falling by 35 per cent, bringing the total to $6.25 million.
Starring John David Washington, Robert Pattinson, Elizabeth Debicki and Kenneth Branagh, the movie launched on 2,810 locations in the US, fetching $US20.2 million – a decent result considering cinemas are closed in Los Angeles, San Francisco, New York and several other major markets.
In US dollars, the international total topped $126 million including China’s $30 million, a record for Nolan in that territory, and, after their second weekends, the UK’s $13.1 million, France’s $10.7 million and Germany’s $8.7 million.
Numero reported the top 20 titles in Australia generated nearly $3.1 million, 15 per cent below the previous frame.

Here’s how The Legend of Korra may have explained one of the weirdest mysteries from Avatar: The Last Airbender.
“Avatar: The Last Airbender is full of hybrid animals. There’s Appa, Avatar Aang’s beloved sky bison. Naga is Korra’s polar bear dog. The ancient lion turtle is another example of the unique creatures that inhabit this world to the point that Aang and his friends think it’s weird when the Earth King has a pet bear that’s not a hybrid with some other animal.”

The newest addition to Marvel movies, The New Mutants, contains some questionable scenes of Magik being racist.
“The New Mutants is out and it looks like people are seeing it, since the film has made $7 million domestically despite, you know, a pandemic. This means there are already scenes being shared from the movie, including several of the character Illyana Rasputina,...

Movies are back! Granted they never really left either, with Netflix, Amazon, Disney+, and others keeping us satiated with content these past five months. Still, the streamers are about to be reinforced for those willing to return to movie theaters: Major Hollywood blockbuster releases are coming, and limited rollouts are slowly making their way back into cinemas around the world.

The New Mutants stars Anya Taylor-Joy (Magik), Maisie Williams (Wolfsbane), Charlie Heaton (Cannonball), Blu Hunt (Mirage) and Henry Zaga (Sunspot) in the X-Men spinoff about five young mutants who must face their pasts, harness their powers, and band together to escape from the sinister government facility in which they have been secretly stashed.
The movie, which was made by 20th Century Fox as part of its X-Men universe before the company was absorbed by Disney, was shot three years ago by director and co-writer Josh Boone. Along with his friend and writing partner Knate Lee, Boone was a massive fan of the New Mutants comics and pitched a trilogy of films based on the book created in 1982 by writer Chris Claremont and artist Bob McLeod.
For the first film, Boone and Lee came up with a plot that would have featured both the villainous Demon Bear monster and also introduced...

As one of the most troubled productions in recent memory that’s faced countless release date shuffles, extensive reshoots and even a change of studio, The New Mutants came attached with a huge curiosity factor, even for those who aren’t particularly big fans of either comic book movies or the wider X-Men franchise.
After being pulled from the schedule several times already, many people remained skeptical that the spinoff would even make it into theaters, right up until yesterday when it finally hit the big screen 28 months later than it was supposed to and one month shy of three years since director Josh Boone had originally wrapped shooting.
The big question on everyone’s lips was if The New Mutants would turn out to be worth all of the hassle, and the answer unfortunately appears to be a resounding no. A 24% score on Rotten Tomatoes and a 45 on Metacritic aren’t exactly great numbers,...

When The New Mutants went into production in early 2017, it was still part of what was once known unofficially as the Fox Marvel Universe: a collection of films based around the Marvel characters that 20th Century Fox owned the screen rights to and had no intention of giving up to Marvel Studios parent company Disney.
As director Josh Boone — a big fan of the comics — has explained, The New Mutants was meant as a different kind of superhero thriller, with the aesthetic and tone of a horror movie. In fact, it was meant to be the first of a trilogy, with each entry capturing a different horror movie feel. And yes, according to Boone, it was meant to be tied at least tangentially to the larger X-Men film series, which was reaching a climactic point with 2019’s Dark Phoenix.

We had such high hopes for The New Mutants. The internet collectively loved the horror-infused first trailer for the movie that dropped all the way back in 2017, and after Dark Phoenix flopped last summer, X-Men fans kept their fingers crossed that the ever-delayed teen-flavored spinoff would prove to be a better final installment of Fox’s X-franchise. At long last, The New Mutants opens in theaters today, but it’s been met with damning reviews from critics.
Josh Boone’s movie currently sports a paltry 20% critics score on Rotten Tomatoes, based on 20 reviews. Things could improve, then, as more critics give their thoughts, but that’s definitely not what we wanted to see. The audience score is somewhat better, but it’s still only 55% on the back of 163 ratings. So, this isn’t even one of those times when you can say “well, at least the fans love it.”

“The New Mutants” comics co-creator Bob McLeod is not happy with the long-delayed new movie based on his work, complaining on Friday that the Disney/Twentieth Century release misspelled his name and whitewashed one of his characters.
“I was very excited when I heard they were making a ‘New Mutants’ movie,” McLeod in a Facebook post. “I thought making it into a horror movie was perhaps an interesting idea, but not at all how the characters should be introduced to the public at large. But, hey, my characters in a movie! I never would have thought that would actually happen.”
“But mainly I was very disappointed that Roberto isn’t short and dark-skinned. Yet another example of Hollywood white-washing,” he added.
McLeod called out director Josh Boone and said, “There’s just no excuse. So basically, #JoshBoone erased everything I contributed to the way the characters look.”
