- Marilynn Smith was born on April 13, 1929 in Topeka, Kansas, USA. She died on April 9, 2019 in Goodyear, Arizona, USA.
- As a child, she thought golf was for sissies. She was a pitcher on a boys' baseball team; her dream was to pitch for the Cardinals.
- She co-founded the LPGA in 1950, won 21 tournaments, and was the first woman to cover a men's golf tournament as a TV commentator.
- The first senior women's professional tournament was named after her. In 2006, she was inducted into the World Golf Hall of Fame.
- She grew up in Wichita, where her father was in the insurance business. Both her parents played golf.
- I had taken off my [baseball] mitt, thrown it against the wall and said a four-letter word beginning with "s". My mother marched me right into the lavatory and washed my mouth out with Lifebuoy soap, and my dad said they had better take me to Wichita Country Club and teach me a more ladylike sport. [how she got her start in golf]
