Is “Outlander” on tonight? No. Starz’s award-winning drama series concluded its sixth season on May 1, 2022, which means we are currently in the midst of another agonizing Droughtlander. The good news is that the cast and crew started production on the seventh season in April 2022, so hopefully it will grace our TV screens sometime in 2023.
Leading cast members Caitriona Balfe and Sam Heughan will return in Season 7 as doctor Claire Randall Fraser and her Highlander true love Jamie Fraser. The 16 new episodes of the Starz romance epic will be based on “An Echo in the Bone,” the seventh novel in the world-renowned series from author Diana Gabaldon. New cast member Charles Vandervaart is joining the series as William Ransom, the “secret son” of Jamie.

Outlander Season 6 Episode 3
This week’s Outlander moves Fergus, Marsali, and Henri-Christian to center stage. The Frasers not only have to contend with the ignorant superstitions of the Ridge and also Fergus’ struggle to stay sober and mentally well. In between, Tom and Malva Christie are creating their own chaos. Although many characters have experienced trauma and depression before, Fergus’ path forces the audience to consider their own attitudes on mental health, alcoholism, and most importantly ableism. Ableism is defined as viewing the disabled as “incomplete” or “damaged” which leads to discrimination.
Henri-Christian is only a few weeks old and he’s already being bullied for being a dwarf. Germain didn’t do anything as his friends threw his basket into the river to see if it would float. If he floated, he would be a child of the Devil. Roger saves Henri-Christian from the waterfall,...

Spoiler Alert: This piece contains spoilers for the Season 6 premiere of “Outlander,” which aired on March 6.
Nearly two years have passed since the fifth season of Outlander wrapped, ending on an incredibly solemn and foreboding note. Claire’s brutal assault by Lionel Brown (Ned Dennehy) and his gang of men was eventually avenged by Jamie (Sam Heughan) and the men of Fraser’s Ridge. Roger (Richard Rankin) and Brianna (Sophie Skelton) realize home is exactly where they’ve been this whole time, not in the future, confirmed by an unsuccessful time-traveling jaunt. In the finale’s last moments, a thunderstorm comes rolling over Fraser’s Ridge — the low rumbling signaling not just rainfall to come, but a revolution.

Outlander is almost back and the Frasers are dealing with a lot, from suspicious new settlers to the fallout from last season’s attack by the Browns. Now, Claire (Caitriona Balfe) and Jamie (Sam Heughan) are navigating new waters as they grapple with her trauma, something that will play a major role as Season 6 unfolds. As viewers will recall, when we last saw the Fraser matriarch in the fifth season, she was kidnapped and brutally attacked by Lionel Brown (Ned Dennehy) and his men. Jamie, Ian (John Bell), Roger (Richard Rankin), and Fergus (César Domboy) all came to her rescue and eliminated the men involved — all but Lionel, who was brought back to Fraser’s Ridge, where Marsali (Lauren Lyle) put him to death with a lethal injection. But even though she is now safe at home in the sixth season, Claire’s horrors are still simmering at just below the surface.

Spoiler Alert: Do not read if you have not watched Season 5 of “Outlander.”
Safe to say, the fifth season of Starz’s “Outlander” was dramatic on an epic scale and ended pretty violently. With nearly two years’ time since last season’s finale aired on May 10, 2020, there is a lot to catch up on before viewers reconnect with the Fraser family. In a recent trailer for Season 6, it’s clear Claire (Caitriona Balfe) and Jamie (Sam Heughan) — plus the rest of their brood — will have plenty of drama on the horizon as the Revolutionary War looms.
For those who haven’t the time (or time-traveling gemstones) to rewatch the last season of “Outlander” before the Season 6 premiere on Sunday, read on for a summary of Season 5’s biggest developments.

Outlander will return with Season 6 at 9 p.m. Sunday, March 6, across all Starz platforms.
The news was revealed by Diana Gabaldon, author of the Outlander book series the historical drama is based on, at Monday’s launch of the ninth book in the series, Go Tell the Bees That I Am Gone.
Season 6, based on Gabaldon’s book A Breath of Snow and Ashes, picks up after the events of the fifth season that saw Claire Beauchamp (Caitríona Balfe) return to Fraser’s Ridge after escaping a violent encounter with Lionel Brown (Ned Dennehy).
She and her husband Jamie MacKenzie Fraser (Sam Heughan) now are striving to maintain peace and flourish within a society which — as Claire knows all too well— is unwittingly marching toward revolution.
Against this backdrop, Claire and Jamie have built a home together at Fraser’s Ridge and now must defend it as it was established...

The 2021 Emmy nominations were revealed on Tuesday, July 13 and “Outlander” was nowhere to be found. But don’t worry, “Outlander” fans, your favorite show wasn’t snubbed. In actuality, the Starz romance epic didn’t air any new episodes within the eligibility period. Season 5 ended on May 10, 2020 and Season 6 isn’t expected to debut until early 2022. That means we’re in yet another so-called “Droughtlander” where the show takes an extended hiatus, this time brought about by the Covid-19 pandemic.
Production on the new episodes began in Scotland in February and ended in June, so the Season 6 cast list should be announced sooner rather than later. All we know right now is that leading stars Caitriona Balfe and Sam Heughan will be back in action as time traveling nurse Claire Randall Fraser and her Highlander true love Jamie Fraser. This Outlander article includes Major spoilers for the Season 5 finale.
The Outlander Season 5 finale was much more self-referential than most episodes of this TV show, as we delve into Claire’s subconscious as she dissociates to avoid the reality of her abduction and abuse at the hands of Lionel Brown. Instead of staying in the present, her mind brings her to a 20th century home filled with her 18th century family celebrating American Thanksgiving. The modern house is populated with references to things we have seen Claire experience in previous seasons of this show.
It’s a clever, visually-specific way of telling us about Claire: what matters to her, what she’s afraid of, and what she’s desperately trying to avoid. It is also the kind of episodic writing and direction that wouldn’t work for a less fervid viewership. The creators obviously had faith that fans will have been paying close attention,...

This Outlander article contains Major spoilers for the Season 5 finale.
In the Outlander Season 5 finale, we see the horrific fallout from Claire’s abduction. While this mostly takes the form of having to watch Claire as she endures physical, emotional, and sexual abuse at the hands of Lionel Brown and the other bandits, we also get an update on how the citizens of Fraser’s Ridge are doing post-attack on the Ridge. Namely, that Geordie was killed by Lionel and his compatriots.
Who is Geordie, you may be asking yourself. A good question! The Geordie in question is not Print Shop Geordie (Lorn MacDonald), aka Jamie’s irritable print shop assistant who was such a charming addition to the Season 3 cast of characters. Nor is he Season 1 Geordie (Bryan Larkin), aka Geordie Dougal, who was memorably impaled by a wild board back in the Castle Leoch days. No, the current...

[Editor’s Note: The following review contains spoilers for the Season 5 finale of “Outlander,” titled “Never My Love.”]
The fifth season of “Outlander” has been full of big moments, from the death of Murtagh (Duncan Lacroix) and Roger (Richard Rankin) being hanged, to Bree (Sophie Skelton) getting justice and Jamie (Sam Heughan) facing death from infection. On the season finale, it was Claire (Caitriona Balfe) whose life was in danger, as the story picked up on her kidnapping from last week and doled out some of the most brutal scenes in the series’ history. And once again that meant turning to rape.
“Outlander” has never shied away from using sexual assault to either advance plot or characters, as it faces the challenge of staying true to the source material while delivering an 18th-century drama to a modern audience. In that vein, Claire’s gang rape, led by Lionel Brown (Ned Dennehy) was inevitable as a big moment of her journey in the books,...

Warning: This recap, by its very nature, contains major spoilers about Sunday’s Outlander
Rationally, I know that this week’s Outlander was written, filmed, edited and locked down months ago. So there’s no way that my — and part of the fandom’s — voicing our grievances with last week’s episode had any bearing on anything that happens on screen in this Sunday’s installment. But “The Ballad of Roger Mac” is so well crafted, so well acted and so heartbreakingly fulfilling that it almost feels as though we collectively dreamed it into being.
