- Joshy Mangalath; a national award-winning Screenplay writer was born at a small village called Korani at Attingal municipality in Trivandrum district in Kerala. He had schooling in Nattakom Government Model high school at Kottayam district, Kerala. He earned his pre-degree from S.B College Changanacherry, Kerela. A Diploma in Electronics from Calicut D.G.E & T center, and graduated with B.B.A. He also earned his postgraduate degree in M.B.A (specializing in human resources management) from Edexcel University, U.K. Currently, working as an HR & Administration Manager. Joshy's father was an avid reader and an active member of the 'DC Books' book club Kerela. (The largest publisher in Kerala) and, he was instrumental in inculcating the love for books in him. From his early childhood itself, he was introduced to the world of classic novels, short stories, poems, and essays brought home by his father. This implanted the seed of reading and writing in his soul. He started writing poems and short stories from his schooling years, and at present, his short stories have been published in leading Malayalam journals. Later, his enthusiasm for reading and watching plays of master dramatists like Omcheri, N. Krishnapilla, Naredraprasad, and Thoppil Bhasi,(famous playwrights) among others instilled him for the love of scripting plays. Even though he wrote many scripts, he never published it. However, that experience fine-tuned his writing skills and instilled in him the confidence to become a screenplay writer.
Ottaal (A wicker basket for catching fish) was his first screenplay which realized as a movie. It is an adaptation of the world-famous Russian writer Anton Chekhov's short story 'Vanka'. The film made history, becoming the first-ever Malayalam movie to have swept all the top awards in the 20-year history of the International Film Festival of Kerala. The film was one of four Malayalam films selected to be a part of the Indian Panorama at the International Film Festival of India in Goa in November 2015.
