- Marcus started off his media career as co-creator of a comedy podcast which garnered around 40,000+ life time downloads, sitting around the top 100 podcasts on iTunes and featuring regularly on the homepage in the New & Noteworthy section. Registering a company named Fresh Take Media, he built up a raft of contacts within the music industry shooting music videos, creating a web series that amassed over 100,000 organic views, promotional content, red carpet interviews and festival content. His MA graduation documentary, Bubzy (2015), won a notable mention award at Let's All Be Free Festival 2016 in the Documentary category. Marcus was then headhunted by a top 50 production company to become a Video Producer creating corporate and social media content internationally for Philips, Tesco and British Gas over the course of three years.
Recently Marcus was selected to attend the 2017 B3 Media Talent Lab where he was given funding to develop his script on human trafficking titled Caterpillar. One of his most recent projects, No Exposure (2018), which is about a young videographer who films low budget music videos in order to fund himself as a carer, is travelling the festival circuit and was recently shown at the BFI Southbank as a part of the BIFA Accredited SOUL Film Connect event.
As a result of No Exposure, Marcus was selected by the National Film and Television School to attend the MA Directing Fiction course from 2019, where he is working on honing his craft and developing future projects. All three films he directed at the NFTS have had successful festival journeys, with his horror/thriller short film, THE RETREAT, being an official selection in the New Vision section of the Oscar qualifying Sitges International Film Festival and it was released online via Short of the week and Alter. His NFTS graduation film, CATERPILLAR (2021), has just finished a near-four-year development journey, beginning when Marcus was selected to attend the B3 Media Talent Lab in 2017 where he was given funding to develop the script. It had its world premiere at the 62nd Krakow Film Festival and has now screened at several BAFTA and Oscar Qualifying festivals as it continues its journey on the circuit.
Upon graduating from the National Film and Television school Marcus was selected to to be a part of the 2021 cohort of BFI NETWORK's BAFTA crew and shortly after was chosen to take part in an elite director mentorship scheme with Warner Media, where he shadowed Showrunner Miguel Sapochnik and the episodic directors on Game of Thrones: House of the Dragon for 16 months, finishing in July, 2022.
