The elimination of Markantoine Lynch-Boisvert from “Making the Cut” in the episode “Social Media Content” surprised no one more than Markantoine himself, who didn’t think he should have been sent home. But despite his protestations the competition moved on with its final four: Rafael Chaouiche, Georgia Hardinge, Jeanette Limas, and Yannik Zamboni. But those semifinalists had one big task standing between them and the finale. So what happened in “Concept Store”?

No more one-day or two-day tasks. This was the big one. They would have four weeks to create their 10-look final collections, but not everyone would get to show those collections during the last fashion show. First they would work with “Making the Cut’s” production design team to construct their own concept stores that would represent their brands. They would...

Episode five, “Festival Wear,” was a bloodbath on “Making the Cut,” with outrage from judge Jeremy Scott and the eliminations of both Curtis Cassell and Sienna Li. That left five designers going into episode six, “Social Media Content”: Rafael Chaouiche, Georgia Hardinge, Jeanette Limas, Markantoine Lynch-Boisvert, and Yannik Zamboni. After all that vitriol, it was nice to get back to a kinder, gentler “Making the Cut.” And spoiler alert: no notebooks were harmed in the filming of this episode.

“We’re going to turn this thing around,” host and head judge Heidi Klum told the final five. They would get a chance to redeem themselves by showing off their online marketing skills. Much to the surprise and delight of all the designers on “Making the Cut,” no one was eliminated in season three, episode four, “One Day, One Team.” So all seven contestants returned to design again in episode five, “Festival Wear”: Curtis Cassell, Rafael Chaouiche, Georgia Hardinge, Sienna Li, Jeanette Limas, Markantoine Lynch-Boisvert, and Yannik Zamboni. All sunshine and puppies and roses, right? Unfortunately, the judges’ momentary mercy curdled like milk in the sun. Let’s get into it.
See‘Making the Cut’ spoilers: Who was eliminated, when, and why in season 3? Assignment
“Festival wear has become big business for fashion retailers,” Tim Gunn explains. “Many large brands are creating year-round festival lines. In fact, for the Millennial and Gen-z demographics it’s becoming tangential to resort wear.” We’re talking hippie Woodstock looks, Afropunk, all those wild desert utopia Burning Man costumes. The sky is kind of the limit with this one.

Gabriella Meyer was sent home for her underwhelming “Winter Wear” in episode three of “Making the Cut,” leaving seven designers fighting to be the next great global brand: Curtis Cassell, Rafael Chaouiche, Georgia Hardinge, Sienna Li, Jeanette Limas, Markantoine Lynch-Boisvert, and Yannik Zamboni. But how well could they work together? We found out — for better and worse — in “One Day, One Team.”
Assignment
For the first time on “Making the Cut” the designers had to display teamwork by all working on one team. Together they would create an accessible, cohesive collection where every designer was responsible for one look. Oh, and the timeline for finishing their assignments was shorter than ever. Instead of two weeks, or two days, or one day, they would have a mere seven hours and no help from seamstresses. What could possibly go wrong?

With the elimination of Ciara Chyanne Morgan in episode two of “Making the Cut” for her activewear looks that looked more like they were going to the office, there were eight designers left competing to become the next great global brand: Curtis Cassell, Rafael Chaouiche, Georgia Hardinge, Sienna Li, Jeanette Limas, Markantoine Lynch-Boisvert, Gabriella Meyer, and Yannik Zamboni. So who kept up their hot streaks in “Winter Wear,” which premiered on Amazon Prime on August 26?
Assignment
It was a pretty straightforward task this week: the designers would create two-look winter wear collections with one high-fashion runway look and one accessible look, the latter of which would be sold in Amazon’s “Making the Cut” online store for the winning designer. Here’s the less straightforward part, though: they only have one day to complete the whole challenge. So we’ve gone from two weeks for the first assignment to two days for the second assignment,...

With the elimination of Emily Bargeron in the season three premiere of “Making the Cut” for her evening wear looks that looked way too daytime, there were nine designers left competing to become the next great global brand: Curtis Cassell, Rafael Chaouiche, Georgia Hardinge, Sienna Li, Jeanette Limas, Markantoine Lynch-Boisvert, Gabriella Meyer, Ciara Chyanne Morgan, and Yannik Zamboni. So who kept up with the pace in “Activewear Champions,” which premiered on Amazon Prime on August 19?
Assignment
The designers are immediately introduced to a special guest, Chief Design Officer for Champion North America Ned Munroe. If the title of the episode weren’t clear enough this is an activewear assignment, in which the designers will create two-look activewear collections in collaboration with Champion. They would receive Champion reverse weave fabric, plus Champion trims and logos to create their designs.
Unlike “Evening Wear,” which gave the designers two weeks to work from...
