Poll: Face-Off: 'The Meg' vs. 'Meg 2: The Trench'

National Megalodon Day is celebrated each year on June 15th. The word 'megalodon’ literally translates as 'large tooth', and this creature had a lot of them with 276 7-inch teeth. It had a bite radius that measured 9 feet by 11 feet and a bite force that measured 40,000 pounds per square inch. Whereas in comparison, a Tyrannosaurus Rex's bite force was only a bone-crushing 12,000 pounds per square inch.

Megalodons were one of the largest apex predators to have ever inhabited the earth, with estimates of its size ranging from 34 to 67 feet in length (as indicated by the fossil record). Megalodons were not just the world’s largest sharks to have ever lived, but also the world’s largest fish. It is no wonder it is a popular choice for filmmakers to play the protagonist, as its estimated size would make it three times longer than the largest great white shark ever documented. Megalodons thrived and were the undisputed rulers in every ocean on the planet, except for the Antarctic, for over 20 million years, spanning the entire Miocene epoch of the Neogene Period.

The lineage of sharks to which Megalodon belonged has been extinct for over 3 million years, of which it was the last surviving member. In the end, climate change and cooling water temperatures during the Pliocene Epoch resulted in a loss of habitat and prey, and it simply ceased to exist. Still, the megalodon lives on in the eyes of moviegoers in dozens of TV movies, direct-to-video titles, and a few feature films.

Which 'Meg' franchise movie, that features Megalodon sharks as the protagonists, is your favorite?
