One Of The Few Kren "Shorts" That Actually Has Any Artistic Merit...
22 April 2006
I've been very unimpressed with the body of work that I've seen from Kurt Kren and oftentimes collaborator Otto Muehl. Usually relying on fetishistic and graphic sexuality or scatological material for their short films - 10/65 takes a different turn. This short plays out almost like a low-budget TOOL video, or something of the sort. There's nothing really in the way of "storyline" - and as usual - there is no music or dialogue - but this one had some decent visuals.

It's basically just a guy who looks like he's covered in dough or wet plaster or some pliable white material who rolls around and pulls the plaster off. At one point there are razor-blades and other items stuck to his face - and at another point, what looks like a bald woman painted white enters the scene as well...that's about it...

I can't say that 10/65 is anything wonderful by any means - but at least we are saved from the constant jumpy-editing and fecal material that populates so much of Kren's other works. The visuals were strong in this entry and would work pretty well if cut to some heavy industrial or underground techno music. Worth a look to art-house fans - if you can find this... 6/10
