No Hollywood Here
6 January 2007
My husband and I drove to Atlanta from our home in Western NC to see this movie because of an advance review that we read in the Washington Post as well as a trailer that we saw in October. The movie was definitely worth the drive. Clive Owen portrays an ordinary man with an extraordinary commitment to a person he'd never met before. One of the things that struck us was the lack of Hollywood clichés. There was enough humor to balance the horror and enough beauty to counter the bleakness. Michael Caine was simply great. At the end of the film we stayed for the credits and to give ourselves a chance to be quiet for a few minutes. We noticed that a lot of others did the same. Today we watched the movie for a second and final time with our 17-year old son. He had the same reaction that we did - silence and reflection. This is a great movie...
