Roses Are for the Rich (1987 TV Movie)
Filmed in Jasper, Alabama - not Birmingham
22 July 2008
This movie was filmed in Walker County (Jasper, Alabama), not Birmingham.

Walker County's primary industry was coal mining, up until the 1980's.

Jasper is also where Polly Holliday, George Lindsey, Glen Shaddix, Sandy Posey and Michael Rooker are from.

In the area's daily newspaper, The Daily Mountain Eagle, there is a story about Jerry Dollar, a local college instructor who, along with his wife, tutored many child stars - and were involved in this film.

Locals served as extras in the movie.

Jasper is in northwest Alabama, about 35 miles west of Birmingham on U.S. Highway 78, the highway that runs from South Carolina to downtown Memphis.

It is also about 45 minutes south of the legendary Muscle Shoals.

Visit the Muscle Shoals Music website, or the Alabama Music Hall of Fame site to learn more about this area.
