Bring this film to DVD
24 January 2009
I am with you 100 percent on the need to have I.F. Stone's Weekly released on DVD. I have been campaigning for this for so long that the first time I proposed this, I recommended that it be released on Beta. (Just kidding, but not far from the truth.) I first saw the film in journalism class at the University of Michigan in 1976, and later it was shown on the local PBS station. But as far as I know, it's never been released on VHS or DVD. How do we get the ball rolling? Perhaps Jerry Bruck could help, or whoever owns the copyright. It just isn't right that this wonderful film is not available to the general public.

Tom Wicker's narration was terrific. And there were lots of interesting interviews with subscribers. Also, there was footage of Izzy describing his trip to the U.S. Geological Survey. I think it was for information about a an underground nuclear test that had been hushed up by the government. He described how THRILLED they were to see a reporter, because reporters rarely ventured into their office. One of many hilarious anecdotes recounted in the film.
