I found this movie to be a complete misconstruction of what Star Trek is supposed to be.
The moment child Kirk appears driving a Corvette and doing a bunch of unreasonable and unjustified stuff just to show off special effects I knew I was in for a big disappointment.
Chris Pine is a huge miscast. Or at least he was terribly misdirected. ***SPOILER ALERT*** Somewhere along the movie they DO try to justify why the "new" Kirk is so different from the original, but it still doesn't make any sense.
***SPOILER ALERT*** Casting Leonard Nimoy seemed one of the good parts of the movie, but abusing the duplicity on the final scene was absolutely unnecessary.
The whole movie is done without any regard to science fiction or the original Star Trek series. For instance, some scenes were shot on ceramic tiled corridors that look like they belong on a cold war movie, not a science fiction classic.
Characters seem dumb and one dimensioned, I love J.J.Abrams work on Cloverfield and Lost, but he clearly had a bad one with this film.
I came out of the movie theater feeling shortchanged and greatly disappointed.
