Les copains (1965)

Based on a Jules Romains novel, and featuring Georges Brassens' famous song "Les Copains D'Aboard" ,"Les Copains" shows, perhaps more than his other works ,that Yves Robert was an auteur. His heroes are all big children who do not want to grow up ,who want to stay the way they were as children (hence his childhood nostalgia we feel in " La Guerre Des Boutons" and his two magic movies "La Gloire De Mon Père" and "Le Château De Ma Mère").

Seven pals declare war to stupidity, hypocrisy, bourgeoisie conformism and their mainstays: the Army and the Church;they are not real rebels ,and their rebellion looks more like schoolboy pranks than a serious political attitude. For instance, one of them disguises himself as a priest to praise....the sex virtues.

It's a black and white movie, but there's a good use of color for one scene .
