My Sweet Misery is the story a group of really messed up people coping with their problems by drinking, smoking and tormenting each other--often simultaneously. At the story's center are Sam and Burke, two brothers who only have each other. Burke's pathological over protectiveness and propensity for violence mixed with Sam's resigned acceptance and melancholy are such a great combination that it draws both laughter and sorrow. Throughout it all, Sam's therapist--a figment of his imagination who laments not being imagined as someone cooler--provides a mechanism through which Sam can dissect his own life and determine what he really wants out it.

In the end we see that underneath all the trauma and baggage, the characters are all redeemed in some way as they realize they deserve to be happy and do something to grab that which makes them happy--be it another person or just a bagpipe.

I thoroughly enjoyed this film and hope it finds wider release.
