Cab Driving
2 May 2017
Warning: Spoilers
This time David becomes a taxi cab driver for a company which is in debt to some loan sharks, a fact which the company's owner keeps from David. See, the loan sharks want her to sell the company, and their method of doing so is to scare all the drivers into quitting. This ep does a very nice job of making the owner sympathetic in spite of her lying to David, and it's got plenty of thrills.

David tends to be a model employee in whatever job he works, and "Behind the Wheel" turns that up to an almost humorous extent, as the characters repeatedly emphasize that if David keeps doing a good job, other drivers will rejoin the cab company and completely turn their fortunes around. The very survival of the company hinges completely on him.

The plot doesn't turn much, as it's mostly just the mobsters trying to kill David, and David eluding them, sometimes with help from the Hulk. But there are loads of good scenes here. One standout is the Hulk terrorizing a gas station owner who refused to sell David gas even though his passenger is a pregnant woman in labor. The scene is both delightfully humorous as you see the man get his comeuppance and, thanks to some ingenious camera work and Ferrigno's monstrous presence, genuinely terrifying.

This episode doesn't hit true greatness in any respect, but it shows the series in its stride. Worth the price of admission (so to speak) all by itself is seeing David having to serve as McGee's cabby. David not only gets away, he has a little fun with McGee along the way. And so do we.
