Review of Fight Ring

Fight Ring (2009)
5/10
For a film with a budget of $11,000, this is pretty good. Silly, campy fun.

Warning: Spoilers
FIGHT RING: Directed, financed, written, and produced by my former martial arts instructor, Sean Gallimore. It's a story of a man who suffers a debilitating injury (MY HANNND! is a hilarious line, flatly delivered), rehabilitates himself, then receives a ring and a significant amount of cash in the mail. If he chooses to wear the ring, he enters into a tournament of elite fighters. The ring indicates when another contestant is nearby. I'm not going to spoil any more of it for you, save to say that there is a ridiculous plot twist, and most of it was shot in Sean's house, backyard, and the state forests of Connecticut. The other fighter characters are caricatures of tropes ("DESTROY!"), which comes across as intentional and keeps one chuckling.

Fun, silly thing with decent fight scenes that's fun to watch when you're bored (or stoned). Sean's ability with fight choreography and his willingness to be silly prevent this film from being a total dumpster fire.
