Upright is a dramedy of two mismatched people who end up colliding.

Tim Minchin is Lachlan 'Lucky' Flynn. He has problems, he has money issues and he pops pills. Lucky is rock musician on his way to Sydney from Perth with a piano carried on a trailer.

He collides with Meg's wagon. She is a teenager and it seems she is running away from some trouble, likely to be family issues. With her arm injured and his car damaged. Lucky needs to move the piano over into her pick up wagon and take her to hospital. Meg makes out to the staff that Lucky is her father.

We discover that Lucky is coming home after many years away. His mother is ill and Meg wants to tag along with him.

The first episode is the set up for this road trip. The viewer is dripped fed information which is more about Lucky and his video chats with his family.

Freak circumstances have bought these people together. Lucky mentions an incident of a rolling haystack that killed an ELO musician. What were the odds?

I found the first episode spiky, although it is less of a comedy. It does seem influenced by one of these Ricky Gervais dramedies. I suspect this might get more darker as we find out more about these characters.
