Maxwell's jealous of the fact that Fran's been seeing a new man, a handsome undertaker (Mark McCoy) set up by her matchmaking mama. The handsome McCoy has a desire to change his profession, ripping off a Dick Van Dyke episode from "Golden Girls" with Bea Arthur in Fran's shoes. This is highlighted by Niles' harassing C.C. with insinuations that Fran and Maxwell are talking about getting intimate, a complete lie of course, but a great setup for Fran and Maxwell to discuss the possibility of her becoming intimate with someone in the Sheffield house. This is one of the first episode to really indicate an attraction between Maxwell and Fran, leaving the story open for a future. It's perhaps a bit too soon in the series to be paid pushing that agenda so aggressively, setting up soap opera potential for the two lead characters for future plotlines.
