The Boy Who Cried Werewolf
4 August 2020
No one believes The Boy Who Cried Werewolf after he witnesses his father turning into the beast responsible for a series of murders.

The film starts with a young boy named Ritchie and his father Robert having some bonding time up at their cabin in the woods. When they decide to go out for a walk, a werewolf attacks them and bites Robert. They survive the attack, and the attacker dies, but no one believes Ritchie when he says it was a werewolf. In true werwolf movie fashion, the beast turned human once it died leaving the police to believe it was just some maniac.

After Ritchie continues on about seeing the werewolf, a psychiatrist suggests that the two of them go back up to the cabin so that he can face his demons. Once there, Robert turns into the beast when the full moon comes out and kills a few people camping and driving in the area. Ritchie catches on that his father is the one who did the killings as a werewolf. The full moon comes out when they visit the cabin a third time ... will Ritchie and his mom survive Robert when he turns into the beast yet again?

I enjoyed so many things about The Boy Who Cried Werewolf. Not only is it a fun little werewolf flick, but the movie touches on other topics such as divorce and the family dynamics who affect the young child as he is juggled between his mother and father. Then you add the whole "my dad is a killer werewolf" element to add even more drama for the kid. The transformation from human to werewolf is very weak given the times, and likely the budget, but the end result is effective. The wolf man look does work in this one.

The acting was strong from all involved. Kerwin Mathews and Elaine Devry had a great chemistry as parents, and Mathews was an effective monster as well. Unknown actor Scott Sealey did a good job as Ritchie who spends most of the film in distress over the fact that his dad is a killer but no one believes him. Another strong point was the attack and killing scenes. It was terrifying when Robert attacked.

Check this one out if you can! It's an entertaining werewolf horror film that has a lot of heart to it with characters you care for and want to see survive.
