Jaw-dropping

Warning: Spoilers
THE DRAGON FAMILY is an excellent and jaw-dropping addition to the Hong Kong cycle of Triad movies with one of the best casts ever assembled in a Hong Kong movie. Why there are just so many people in this doesn't become clear until around the hour mark, with a show-stopping set piece that had my jaw on the floor. If you thought the Red Wedding in GAME OF THRONES was a shocker, wait until you see this! It's hard to pick out favourites from the huge cast, but I think baby-faced Max Mok is the stand-out here, with Andy Lau quietly reliable and Alan Tam against type. The bad guys have a great dream team headed by a ruthless Norman Chu and Phillip Ko as a hitman, and while there isn't a consistent wealth of action throughout, that which does feature makes a real impact. The revenge-themed climax is incredible stuff and reaches heights that few other movies achieve. If you liked JUST HEROES or HONG KONG GODFATHER you'll love this one!
