B Subhash - Mithunda jodi lost its mojo

Pyar Ke Naam Qurbaan review :

B Subhash - Mithunda jodi spelt box office success throughout 80s with super hits like Disco Dancer (1982), Kasam Paida Karne Wale Ki (1984), Dance Dance (1986) and Commando (1988). But by 1990, their magic had started waning with Pyar Ke Naam Qurbaan - a routine actioner which didnt exactly set the box office on fire.

Mithunda had two heroines for himself- amirzadi Dimple whom he loves and his fellow garib Mandakini who loves him. The love triangle is shattered by Dimple's bro Danny who kidnaps Manda and rapes her.

In one of the cringiest court scene, we have Yunus Pervez cross questioning Mandakini to the extent of asking her to show her bitten body to all.

Pyar Ke Naam Qurbaan had some good compositions by B Subhash staple Bappi Lahiri. The title song is still memorable.

But overall, the film wasnt as impactful as expected. I saw the film at Badal Bijlee cinema, Matunga in its first week amidst housefull crowds but the film collapsed by second week to emerge a flop. B Subhash went on to make more duds like Pyar Ka Saaya (1991) and Nachnewale Gaanewale (1991) throughout the 90s. He collaborated one last time with Mithunda in Classic Dance Of Love in 2005 which was another disaster. A super hit director- actor jodi came to an end!
