Fake Aussie accents galore
26 December 2020
Warning: Spoilers
Good episode with Mannix chasing down a man in line for a big inheritance. It is a ruse by bad guys trying to find a survivor of a deliberate ship sinking. Mannix does find the guy (Don Knight) and the truth comes out. The bad guys make several attempts to kill Knight but they never work. He won't go to the police as the bad guys would kill his girlfriend back home. Other reviewers have covered the plot in more detail so a few comments. Not sure why everyone had to do Aussie accents, usually quite badly. Don Knight was Aussie but Peter Whitney and Karen Steele aren't and both have been around enough that is hard for them to pull it off as we have seen them before many times. Knight is a pro. I still remember him as an assassin paid to kill McGarrett on the old Hawaii 5-0. The bad guys aren't really that scary. Joe makes his usual mistake to go it alone at the end when he could just as easily take the police with him. Would have been safer too. Robert Reed is the cop in this episode. He does exasperated as well as any of them. A decent enough show but could have lived without the accents. I guess they are just fun to do, mate!
