"Amazement turns to fear" -- Excellent recap of Dannemora breakout

Warning: Spoilers
Shows like 20/20, Dateline, and 48 Hours are all often wonderful...reminders that fact can be stranger than fiction and often more gripping.

The story of the June 2015 escape of killers David Sweat and Richard Matt is well-told in this episode of 20/20 on OWN, narrated by the State Police trooper who coordinated the search and shot amidst the Adirondack hills and farms that camouflaged the wily fugitives for 23 long days.

The characters in this drama are all fascinating, including Joyce Mitchell, the civilian workshop matron who spent five years in prison for her role.

I've seen an excellent TV movie on this case, as well as Ben Stiller's mesmerizing miniseries. It may be easy to overlook the two killers' victims, a businessman who'd made the mistake of hiring Matt, and, in Sweat's case, a cop just doing his job.

It's so unspeakably unfair for good people to die so horribly! These shows give us reason to appreciate our dedicated men in blue.

No one had broken out of the Clinton Correctional Facility in 100 years. It is a credit to our law-enforcement pros that these men were caught relatively quickly, with no further harm done to any other innocent human.
