Warning: Spoilers
Though this reviewer had his reservations about season two, Snowpiercer once again delivers some one of the best performances of the show so far.

Melanie's off to the high altitude research station to link up with the weather balloons from the train in order to come up with a climate model. After finding the grim remains of the previous tenants she is able to get power. As her supplies got buried in an avalanche she must ration on what she was able to bring with her. The thin mountain air and lack of food take their toll.

Jennifer Connelly give a very fine performance of someone operating in thin air on starvation rations. Breathless and fatigued she completes her duty at the station. She also suffers a series of very well staged hallucinations with various characters from the train.

We learn of Wilford and Melanie's time before departure where they were arguing over train details and Wilford just being his repugnant self. It is rare to see Sean Bean as an evil character, but here the actor plays it so well it is a credit to his adaptability. There is the event of departure in which we see Wilford massacre innocent scientists and civilians to protect his pampered vision, and why Mel and Ben decided to leave him behind.

Melanie's other hallucinations involve Layton and her daughter Alexandra which help her figure out ways to survive in the station. She finds a new food supply and extra heat, while having to make emergency repairs. Later as she detects the train nearby, she runs to link up with the train as it just rumbles past without slowing with Alex staring out the window. Has Melanie been left behind to die?

One of the best episodes in the show so far, and excellent performances throughout. 10/10.
