Selfless love props up talent and ambition
2 March 2022
Warning: Spoilers
Story of orphan Qi Bai cao (Hu Bingqing) who, having been mentored by unfairly disgraced master Qi Xiang Nan (Vincent Chiao) and dashing coach Ruo Bai (Yang Yang), becomes a force to be reckoned with in Yuan Wu Dao, a (probably fictional) form of martial arts based off Taekwondo.

This seems like the usual energy-filled ambition-driven sports-themed teen drama, but the last few minutes abruptly change the tone of this drama into a heart-wrenching tale of selfless love. While Ruo Bai's love for Bai Cao is shown sporadically throughout the series, it's at the end when the extent of his selflessness hits hard. The series is open-ended, but in keeping with its overall tone, I like to think the best outcome possible happens and Season 2 is just Ruo Bai's dream while he is recuperating.

Song Yun Tan delights as Bai Cao's best friend Fan Xiang Ying who has a crush on Ruo Bai. Likewise, Leo Wu entertains as Ruo Bai's roommate Hu Yifeng, who likes Xiang Ying.
