Review of Intruders

Intruders (2014)
6/10
MBB is fabulous, intriguing story, dishonest ending
4 April 2022
A Curate's Egg of a show - excellent in parts, abysmal in others.

The good: 1) Sublime breakout performance from a ten-year old Millie Bobby Brown. She is the star of the show and plays effectively two characters with a story arc central to the plot. Despite any misgivings I have, the show is worth watching for this alone! 2) An excellent concept with a decent (if at times laboured) reveal pace. 3) Some strong performances from other central characters, namely: John Simms, Mira Sorvino and James Frain.

The bad: 1) The rest of the cast are wooden, not fleshed out and lazily used largely as props by the writers. 2) Most egregiously - The plot is complex and confusing with many strands running. This is fabulous until a 60 second scene wipes it all away with the ridiculous Deus ex Machina logic of a nine-year old to wrap up the whole show.
