Review of Andor

Andor (2022– )
7/10
Well written show. Tense plot that truly expands the vast lore of the franchise.

I really liked "Andor", the storytelling reminds me a lot of the original Star Wars movies. The show is in my opinion well balanced: there are many slow-burner sequences with detailed dialogues that expand the vast lore, followed by some action-packed scenes. The series also provides the back story of Cassian. Creators explained his origins through short but effective flashbacks that push the audience to come back for more. Episodes are tense, there is a lot at stake for the main characters and their victory is not taken for granted. Screenwriters had a more likely approach on the whole rebellion storyline. The series is also showing the point of view of the Empire through the perspective of Dedra Meero, portrayed amazingly by Denise Gough. Finally a worthy villain, after the complete fiasco of Kylo Ren in the latest trilogy or the Third Sister in "Obi Wan Kenobi". I enjoyed the performance of Diego Luna, I really liked him in "Rogue One" and he was consistent in this production as well. In general the cast was competent and I feel that every character had the right amount of screentime. No one was left behind, and this is why I am really looking forward to season two, as some narrative arcs feel incomplete. Starting from episode 7 there are a few plot elements that are a bit dragged on, slowing slightly the pace of the show. This is my only complaint. This is a good SW story, and I definitely recommend it to all the fans of the franchise.
