Some grotesque and absurd moments and ideas, some weird characters, a fine production and a never boring story line make Barbarosa a fine watch for those who want a Western movie on their plate. Director Fred Schepisi got a couple of movies in his oeuvre that all are in their own way rather special - Iceman, Roxanne, Evil Angels or I. Q., even if you don't like one of those movies, one must admit that every single one of them is special in its own way. Barbarosa is no exception here - it reminds me fondly of some of the better Italo Western movies, for sure not on the same level as the masterpieces by Mr. Leone, but within the range of vision. So if you want to watch some dirty guys on the hunt and being hunted, all spiced up with a good shot of humor, Barbarosa may be just the right choice for you.
