Bad Romance (2022)
10/10
A funny, playful plot with endearing characters.

This film is a mishmash of comedy, crime, and romance, and it will take you on a ride from start to finish.

The protagonist's arc takes one to all too familiar places during his quest to find a love of his own- begging the question: How far would you go to find your true love?

The acting is fresh and the film serves up quite a few genuine, laugh-out-loud, hilarious moments.

I love that it takes place in Austin. As a former Austinite, seeing some of the set locations, like I Luv Video (!!!), was extremely nostalgic. Seeing the owl all lit up in black and white format made it seem, rather than just a movie that's set in Austin, more like a little love letter to the city itself.

As someone who enjoys watching new and up-and-coming filmmakers, this hat trick of a fella (writer, director and producer) has a unique voice. The plot unfolds in unexpected ways and keeps you wanting to know more. After viewing, kinda seems like the filmmaker is asking you, the viewer, to accept your own flaws and embrace the perfectly imperfect. A good reminder to have every once in a while. I will keep my eye on this new filmmaker. I'm interested to see his future work.
