Review of Panoptic

Panoptic (2017)
10/10
Experimental documentary that is personal and compelling
25 February 2023
I was moved and drawn in by this work, and being a filmmaker and fan of both documentaries and experimental films, I thought this was well done. It is a courageous piece to make, to not only share personal recollections but to call attention to the injustices and preventable mistakes in a society devoted to existing in a state of denial. This is true for MANY places around the world, not just in Lebanon. I thought the pacing, sound design, content & structure were excellent - & not slow at all!

I had read somewhere that this piece was banned from theaters in Lebanon, but I hope that has since been remedied, especially since it is available on Netflix (I am located outside the US, but I'm not sure if it is available everywhere). Bravo to Rana Eid and the crew for this wonderful film.
