Cold Fear (2005 Video Game)

Bone Chilling Game That Holds Up Very Well in 2023!
5 December 2023
Cold fear first came to my attention in 2006 when I was 14. I tried it but was put off by the awkward over the shoulder camera aiming and low mouse sensitivity. I gave up halfway into the early sections of the game where the player is first seen onboard a Russian whaler in the middle of a storm.

Fast forward 17 years later (Dec 2nd 2023), I decided I'd attempt a 2nd run with ThirteenAG's Widescreen Fixes Pack, playing it at custom resolution of ''2560 x 1440'' alongside a Silent Hill 3 PCSX2 Custom Reshade Preset via Nexus Mod which improves the image quality. The result is an unforgettable horrifying and chilling experience.

Picture this, enemies ranging from humans and non-humans alike in the form of zombie-like creatures known as "Exos" (creatures infected by a parasitic organism known as an "Exocel") appearing randomly. I suspect most players had their hearts skip a beat by the sudden appearance of the infected from the corner of a room. Maybe it's the phobia of expecting something to jump out of the corner, I constantly find myself ADSing (Aiming Down Sight) when I'm clearing a room with tight corners. You need a strong heart or a very high tolerance for jump scares to see this game to the end. I'm glad I was able to finish this game in 2 days on Dec 4th. The score in this game is very fitting and well done! It amplifies the urgency of the situation. This is one of those rare Ubisoft games that deserves a remake, remaster or a sequel. A game truly ahead of it's time. Definitely not for the faint hearted. Recommended!
