I love Garland's previous movies, but this one doesn't get much farther than to say that war is bad.
All of the characters are unrealistic and shallow, especially the antagonists seem to be cartoonesque depictions of a perceived stereotype that doesn't really exist in the west.
We lack an explanation or motivation for the war other than the assumed modern political division. This movie will probably not age well.
