My husband and I were critiquing Jon and Michelle on the first episode, annoyed at them. Then we came to realize as the show went on that Jon is the equivalent of a restaurant expeditor. He would complain that stuff wasn't happening and we would yell to the TV "Then help them! Go do it yourself!" but after the first 3 episodes, we came to understand that he is the CEO, his sidekicks Danny and Jonathon are project managers, and it's not for them to do that work. They have hired it out to others and they are paying them top dollar to accomplish their tasks. Occasionally they do step in, such as going dumpster diving for a shower pan that got thrown away by accident, but for the most part, he keeps up with who is doing what, updating us- the audience- on the progress, and finding solutions to problems that come along. We felt that he was trying to up the ante in the first episode by "freaking" out over some cabinet scratches, and just create drama for the sake of entertainment. Drama sells, after all. He settles into being on camera very well after this episode, and really mellowed out. His 2 sidekicks, Danny and Jonathon constantly made my husband and I laugh with their snide remarks, jokes, and little quips when interviewed off to the side. 4 years ago, my husband and I built our house completely from the ground up, so we are both fairly well-versed in what goes into construction and renovation. We found that these 2 made good choices when it came to fixing problems, and knew what they were talking about. A review I read on Rotten Tomatoes was complaining about the driveway "suddenly being paved when beforehand it wasn't therefore this show is fake", but I guess he didn't pay attention to the moment that Jon asked a friend to come out and pave it last minute during overtime. All in all, we came to absolutely love this show and everyone involved, and we were heartbroken when we realized we had reached the end of the season. We hope for season 2 and even spicier Danny and Jonathon interviews!
