Review of DNR

House M.D.: DNR (2005)
Season 1, Episode 9

They did not research the disease enough
27 June 2024
Warning: Spoilers
What ruined this otherwise great episode for me is not having medical knowledge about this particular grave and ugly disease. I get that als is much more known today that it was back then, but the symptoms are just wrong.

There is no numbness in als. You can feel your body, whole, your legs, arms even when you can not move them at all. The fact that the patient could feel dr House touching his leg was NOT the good news in this case. If he can't feel his legs, then it's NOT als. Period. It's some kind of paralysis, other kind. They didn't do basic research.

This repeats over several other episodes where dr House "diagnosed" als based on twitching finger which is NOT absolute sign of disease. It could be, but more often than not, it isn't. Damn, I had my finger twitching for weeks seven years ago, it was repeated movement injury!

I love House series, I watched all episodes but sometimes they tend to get sloppy. This is one example where research was not properly done.
