Tommy Steele had tried many odd jobs before he turned up at the famous "2 I's" coffee bar in London. There he was discovered by Larry Parnes and became one of Britain's first manufactured pop stars. Michael Barrymore was born in Bermondsey London in 1952, the breeding ground for many famous stars, including Charlie Chaplin, Max Bygraves and Tommy Steele.
Having won the TV show New Faces, Michael's big break came when he joined Russ Abbot's Television Madhouse. His own series with Thames Television, The Michael Barrymore Show, soon followed accompanied by his infamous appearances at all the major variety shows.
In 1987 he made the first of his Strike It Lucky shows for Thames Television. It proved so successful that the entertainer went on to make a further nine series.
In 1989, Michael's versatility put him at the forefront of British Entertainment; he trod the boards playing Wishee Washee with Frank Bruno as the Genie of the Lamp in the pantomime Aladdin at London's prestigious Dominion Theatre, where bookings went through the roof. The following Christmas, with Michael's popularity so high, he starred in Cinderella as Buttons at the Bristol Hippodrome and again ticket sales broke all records.
Highlights of Michael's career have included two Royal Variety Performances and Royal shows in the presence of Her Majesty The Queen. In 1992 he starred in The Children's Royal Variety Performance attended by Princess Margaret, to universal acclaim.
In 1993 Michael was signed by London Weekend Television who recognised the performer's huge talent that would, in the next few years, earn him an awesome array of awards and accolades. His top rated series Barrymore won him the title of Top ITV Entertainment Presenter for three years running at the British Comedy Awards from 1993 to 1995. Having now established himself firmly in the public's affection with his mixture of warmth and spontaneity, Michael went on to collect trophies for the Best Entertainment Show and Best Entertainment Performance at the 1994 Royal Television Society Awards.
Michael went on to win a veritable arsenal of awards in 1995 and scored another triumph with his series My Kind Of People. Travelling the length and breadth of Britain, Michael recruited an even bigger army of fans as he invited them to sing their souls out or dance their legs off completely unrehearsed in London Weekend Television's first major foray into weekday prime-time television.
Also in that year, at the first ever National Television Awards voted for by viewers, Michael both won the title of Top Entertainment Presenter and also saw Barrymore scoop Best Entertainment Show. At the same ceremony he also notched up Top Game Show for Strike It Lucky (1986).
In the same ground breaking fashion the following year, underscoring Michael's reputation as Britain's top male entertainer, he was awarded the prestigious Gold Medal - the top accolade in the variety category - at the New York Festival for an episode of Barrymore. Again Michael was voted by the public as Best Entertainment Presenter at the National Television Awards.
During 1997 Michael recorded a new series of Strike It Rich, followed by the filming of his cameo role in the Spice Girls movie Spiceworld. He also recorded a new series of My Kind Of Music and performed his live Christmas show Barrymore Live for 11 Days at Fairfield Halls which sold out every night and received overwhelming standing ovations. Once again Michael received the National Television Award for Best Entertainment Presenter.
In 1998 he had enormous ratings with his hit series My Kind Of Music and he also recorded a new series of Strike It Rich. Michael won two awards at the Challenge TV Game Show Awards and Best Game Show Host and Most Popular Tv Presenter at the National Television Awards.
Michael toured England, Wales and Scotland during 1998 with his An Evening with Barrymore live show, again his huge popularity was reflected in the instant sell outs and standing ovations. Michael also recorded a new series of My Kind Of Music for 1999.
In 1999 and 2000 Michael made a brand new series called Kids Say The Funniest Things which was an instant ratings success and his first ever drama comedy series Bob Martin, both bringing him more awards for Best Entertainment Show and Best Comedy Performance at the National Television Awards.
Michael went on to sell out his live Laid Back tour across New Zealand and then again returning to a further sell out tour in both Australia and New Zealand receiving standing ovations and sell outs each night for both tours.
In 2004 Michael went on the road again in New Zealand with his sell out Heartland Tour receiving overwhelming standing ovations and positive press reviews.
Michael became a resident of New Zealand in March 2004 but splits his time between London and Auckland.
He continued the year working on various potential television productions and, as he did in the UK on numerous occasions, took the role of Master of Ceremonies for a variety of corporate events, including the Thrive EMA conference, and delivered various after dinner speeches bringing his own unique, versatile and spontaneous humour to each and every event.
Michael was also given the opportunity to try on a journalistic hat in 2004 when he was asked to write his own column for the new Herald on Sunday. This was new territory for Michael and his work was well received.
Michael played the role of lawyer Billy Flynn in the hit stage musical Chicago. A first ever musical performance by the entertainer, Michael won the crowds with co star Tina Cross in a two month tour around the North Island of New Zealand. The show sold to sell out audiences and rave reviews. Michael has done a number of live shows and is constantly in demand for corporate entertainment in New Zealand.
In 2006 Michael joined Channel 4's Celebrity Big Brother. The unanimous applause for him as he entered and left the house, showed the huge public support for Michael in England, and he was voted by the public most popular known celebrity in the show.

Arthur Smith was born in South London in 1954. He went to a grammar school and studied at the University of East Anglia in the classes of writer Malcolm Bradbury He has also worked as a road sweeper, dustman, warehouse worker and teacher. He started on the alternative comedy circuit in the 1980s, specialising in being a compere (MC). He has been a regular performer at the Edinburgh festival. He is also an accomplished playwright. James Devlin better known as Devlin is a grime rapper who was born in Bermondsey, London, Greater London, England. However he was raised on a housing estate near the Princess Bowl in Dagenham, Greater London, England. He was part of Grime collective 'O.T Crew' with Dogzilla, Deeper Man, M. Eye, Benson, Kozy, Syer Bars and Daze. Devlin was also a member of The Movement, consisting of himself, Wretch 32, Scorcher, Ghetts, Lightning, Mercston and DJ Unique. His debut album, Bud, Sweat and Beers was released on Island Records in 2010. The first single from the album was "Brainwashed", which was released on 8 August 2010 in the UK and debuted on the UK Singles Chart at number 31, and number 11 on the UK R&B Chart. The second single, "Runaway", was released on 24 October 2010, where it debuted at number 15, marking Devlin's most successful single to date. The single was succeeded by the release of the debut album, Bud, Sweat and Beers, which was released on 1 November 2010 and debuted at number 21 on the UK Albums Chart. Bermondsey born indie artist Jeff Kristian made his TV debut in 1970 at the age of six playing the young Charlie Chaplin in a Tommy Steele BBC special. He is an actor, writer, songwriter, recording artist, producer and performance artist, probably best know in recent years on stage, in TV and film impersonating females.
Regional theatre roles through the 1970's included The Monkey's Paw, Joseph and the Technicolor Dreamcoat, Oh! What A Lovely War, Macbeth and Jesus Christ Superstar. Through the 1980's he fronted live bands, including Dooyah! which performed at The 100 Club, Dingwalls, The Rock Garden, The Cliffs Pavilion and many more. After a season in The Palace of Varieties for The British Music Hall Society, he created and starred in his one-man review The Kinky Hanky Panky Show. His 1990's creation The Diva Show won him a Boyz Magazine Reader's Poll Award for Best Drag Queen. The Jeff Kristian Show at Molly Moggs Theatre Bar in London ran from 2001-16, to date the longest running drag cabaret show in Soho's history. He performed in his live-singing show at some of the best known drag cabaret venues in London, including The Two Brewers, The Black Cap, Brief Encounter and Madame JoJo's, with his own residential weekly shows at The Royal Vauxhall Tavern and The Father Redcap. Jeff returned to immersive theatre in November 2019 for a ninety-nine performance run of Storytime With Santa in Kent.
Jeff's songwriting and recording career began in the heart of Basildon's 1982 music scene, considered the birthplace of British electronic ambient synth-pop and launch pad of Depeche Mode, The Assembly, Yazoo, Vince Clarke and Alison Moyet. Influences can be heard on Jeff's 1984 debut solo single Pierrot and its album Circus. He has continued recording and songwriting for himself and others ever since. In 2000, Maltese Eurovision star Chaira Siracusa's album What You Want featuring four of Jeff's songs made number one in Europe for seven weeks. His songs have been recorded by Lee Mark Jones (Gypsy Lee Pistolero), Sophia Disgrace, Grace Keegan, Joshua Takacs, Chris Repps, Tiffaney Wells, Berry Lane and Dooyah! He headlined at Ronnie Scotts in London for the British Academy of Songwriters, Composers and Authors.
in 2015, he composed the song You're There to raise awareness for British registered charity Cancer Is A Drag, of which he is patron. He was one of many performers on the 2018 fundraising single Love is the Only Law for the Albert Kennedy Trust, marking the 50th anniversary of the decriminalisation of homosexuality. In 2020, Jeff composed a new track A Place For Me to Call My Home for the Rise & Thrive Project, whose aim is to completely end homelessness in Ireland by 2024.
His starring role in the 2004 movie Snow White: My Confidential Drawers, was acclaimed at the Mexican Film Festival. He also starred in the Gsus Lopez short Ephemeral Nature, which won the Grand Prix ASVOFF Barcelona Award for Best Picture in 2012. It has since appeared at The Berlin Film Festival, The Museum of Contemporary Art and The Vivid Festival in Australian. His second Lopez film It Melts won Best Fashion Film at Charleston Fashion Week 2014. His third Lopez movie Out has won numerous awards and appeared at over forty-five festivals worldwide. Other movie roles include Alexander Kaufmann's Trouble on Earth which premiered at Cannes, Eme Guitron's Little Red Riding Hood: Uncensored, Omar Ismail's A Reasonably Good Bloke, Kate Coe's Baker Street Live, James Crow's Nightmare on 34th Street and Last Village on the Right, and Wonderland written and directed by Joshua Baylis. He appeared in Romy Sancto-Alford's 2010 film Molly Moggs, was a featured artist in Lenard Pink's 2016 documovie and TV series I'm Still Queer. He was also interviewed for Aro Korol's Battle of Soho in 2017.
Jeff wrote the songs and music for the Selene Kapsaski horror feature Spidarlings released 2016, of which he is also co-producer. He made an appearance singing three of his own songs in character as The Diva. His songs also feature in the films Snow White: My Confidential Drawers, Out, Baker Street Live and Be London, as well as the forthcoming Artemis of the Wildland, Films Confiscated from a French Brothel and Nightmare on 34th Street. He composed music for the US TV shows London Calling and Xandermonium.
Jeff has written features and articles for several publications, including a serial column for Pink Wire Magazine from 2010-15 called Adventures Of A Drag Queen, the stories from which were compiled as a book published Autumn 2019. He starred as Lettie and Billy-no-nut in the radio pilot of his debut 2012 comedy novel Where D'Ya Put Yer Willy? Its sequel Where's Yer Willy Now? was published July 2019.
As a model, Jeff has been exhibited in photographic portrait by Isabelle Sierra-Gomez, John Barlow, Robert Goldstein, Daniel Lilley and Brian Sturgess, including at London's National Gallery and Whitfield Fine Art Gallery. His portrait in oils and paint has been created by Stephen B Whatley, Alvar Alcalde Vega, Fran Dibuja and Pink Lynn.
Jeff was famously co-owner of London bars Attitude, Brief Encounter and Molly Moggs. In 1995 Attitude won Capital Gay awards for Best Pub and Best New Pub/Club. In 2009, Molly Moggs won the Pink Paper Readers Poll Award for Best Bar Or Pub and in 2011 the Boyz Magazine Reader's Poll Awards for Best Venue For Cabaret & Comedy, as well as Best Bar Night Or Event for its participation in Soho Pink Sunday.
Jeff was a regular cast member on Channel 5's Big Brother's Bit on the Side 2012 and Celebrity Big Brother's Bit on the Side 2012 and 2013. He was anchor and presenter on US television series London Calling from 2015 to 2016. He has also appeared in commercials for Eurostar and The Alzheimer's Society. From Jan-Aug 2016, he was a co-host on the radio chat show XRad Daily with Xander Gibb.
Jeff has been an advocate for vegetarianism, veganism and animal rights for over thirty years.
