- An alcoholic ex cop finds a woman on the roadside, left for dead. He offers to find the killer pro bono as P.I. Her granddad hires him. Things get nasty.
- Two zanies get mixed up with a Southern colonel, his beautiful daughters, a nightclub and a haunted mansion.
- Lightnin' Bill Jones, a man partial to the bottle, does chores and odd jobs around the Calivada Hotel, which is run by his wife and their adopted daughter, Millie. Real estate hucksters, learning that the hotel stands on a proposed railroad right of way, talk Mother Jones into selling the land, but, on the advice of John Marvin, a young lawyer in love with Millie, Bill refuses to sign the bill of sale. Mother Jones orders him from the house, and he goes to live in the Old Soldiers' Home. The schemers persuade Mother Jones to divorce Bill, and she takes him to court. Mother Jones has a change of heart, however, and is reconciled with Bill. The schemers are arrested, and John and Millie become engaged.
- Johnny Hudson recovers a freight wagon belonging to Faro Jenkins and Dave Porter, after outlaws led by Burke attack the pair and steal it. Real estate agent Gordon Gregg is secretly behind the plot to break up the Porter-Jenkins freight line so that they will go bankrupt and he can claim Porter's ranch. Johnny gives Faro $2000 for new equipment. Johnny and Faro also capture a pair of the outlaws and they are jailed, but escape after Gregg knifes Sheriff Bill. Freightline employee Lem, in league with Gregg's gang, steals the murder knife which Johnny had picked up for fingerprint evidence. Gregg gives Faro's freight line a special shipment and require an overnight camp and be prey for his henchmen. Johnny and Faro capture the outlaws by a trick. Burke is killed by Gregg when he demands his share of the loot, and Gregg then takes Peggy Porter as a hostage. Johnny arrives in time to overpower Gregg and the remnants of his gang. A new railroad promises to bring prosperity to the region.

- Reed Lathrop returns to his old home, accompanied by his friend, "Toad" Hunter, to investigate a plot that forces ranchers to sell their properties for very low prices. Finding the ranchers demoralized, he organizes a vigilance committee and enlists the aid of the local circuit judge. Darnell, the owner of the saloon, and Blodgett, a local dealer in ranch property, are unmasked as the culprits. Soon a showdown takes place with the ranchers and the outlaws, ending with the criminals hauled off to prison.
