- Banned for over a decade for its outspoken criticism of the post-WWII communist regime in Hungary, Péter Bacsó's 'The Witness' has since then achieved unparalleled cult status in its native land. Known as the best satire about communism, 'The Witness' has become a cult classic, which was also well received by critics and general audiences alike when it was finally released outside of Hungary. Its candid and realistic portrayal of the incompetent communist regime has earned great acclaim for both the director and the film itself when it was shown at Cannes Film Festival in 1981. 'The Witness' takes place during the height of the Rákosi Era, which was closely modeled after the ruthless and brutal Stalin regime. The film follows the life of an ordinary dike keeper, József Pelikán, who has been caught for illegally slaughtering his pig, Dezsõ. Instead of doing hard time for his "heinous" crime, Pelikán is elevated into an important position, generally reserved for the communist elite. Of course, Pelikán is utterly clueless about his newfound luck, not to mention his new job. Even his new benefactor, the mysterious Comrade Virág, is reluctant to reveal the real reason behind Pelikán's preferential treatment. Thus, begins Pelikán's hilarious adventure deep within the "sophisticated" communist society. One failure after another the incompetent Pelikán is elevated higher and higher on the communist echelon, all the while remaining completely clueless about his promotions. Until one day, when he gets called for to return the "favour" by falsely testifying against his long-time friend in a mock-up show trial.

The idea is quickly dismissed and Alex is then accused of having caused Phil to crash and making up the story about the light to cover up his mistake. Alex is temporarily grounded until further notice. Upon researching UFO's, he runs into Isabella, played by Patsy Kensit, who is also doing research on UFO's. She believes his story but no one else does. After the board is unable to prove Alex caused the crash, he can't seem to get the nerve to fly again. He's also outraged that his superiors want to drop the issue as if it never happened. His research with Isabella points to similar UFO sightings around the same mountain range. After another plane goes down in the same area, Alex demands to go back up and find out what happened. So he goes back up, this time with three planes supporting him, and a video camera on his plane. They encounter more lights this time they seem to be circling the planes. After landing, Alex's superiors finally conclude that the lights are a natural phenomenon. Alex, of course rejects this answer, and decides to climb the mountain where the lights were sighted, to investigate for himself. But will he find any answers?

- The life story of Imre Nagy is one of the defining stories of 20th century Hungarian history. He was the first communist leader to become the symbol of a national revolution, who, in addition, withdrew from the Warsaw Treaty and stood up for democracy based on a pluralist party system. - The documentary film "A Trial in Prague" is about the Slansky trials which took place in Prague, Czechoslovakia, in 1952. During the last five years of Stalin's rule, as Israel turned more and more to the West, the Communist Party became virulently anti-Semitic. Furthermore, Stalin needed to demonstrate to the rest of Eastern Europe that he would not tolerate another Yugoslavia, where Tito had succeeded in achieving a measure of autonomy. So Stalin, in his obsession for total power, created an "enemy within" and orchestrated the infamous show trials, The Slansky trials, in Prague. Thirteen high-ranking Czech Communists, including the powerful Rudolph Slansky, who was the party's general secretary, were arrested on trumped up charges and tortured, physically and mentally, until they confessed to high treason and espionage. They were forced to memorize their testimony for the eight-day trial, which had been carefully scripted by Stalin's apparatchiks. Eleven of the accused were Jews whose loyalty to the Communist Party was sincere and intense. They had lived through the Holocaust and hoped that Communism would provide solutions to post-World War II social, economic and political problems. But their loyalty to the Communist Party stood them in no good stead. Eleven of the accused were hung; the other three were sent to hard labor camps and were released only when Stalin died.
