What is the meaning of death?
- Nepal is a country that evokes a yearning for exploration and the long for adventure. It's a country one explores, when he feels he's "ready for it". Each member of the group was geared up for an amazing adventure in the Annapurna region. But nothing could have prepared them to trek eight hours a day under the sun, to sleep under a dripping tent during the monsoon season, to feel leaches crawling up their legs at every moment and to the encounter of well armed Maoist rebels. Even when it's bad it can get worst says the common sense; and GAP Nepal is the illustration of this universal truth.
- A voyage aboard G.A.P Adventure's EXPLORER, is an expedition in the truest sense of the word. Svalbard in the Arctic is one of the few places on the planet to offer such a plethora of natural and historical extravaganzas. From close-up encounters with huge icebergs and glaciers, to the variety of unique wildlife, this is a voyage of non-stop highlights. Roaming polar bears, lounging seals, grazing reindeer and colonies of birds all co-exist in this harsh land we dare only to explore a couple of months a year.
- mountaineering friend, Jerome Grec, to prepare for their first expedition together. They meet a couple of days ahead of the others to prepare - The Plan: Making the ascent in sealskin garb, followed by the extreme challenge of working their way back down, through the treacherous Diablerets station, to the off-trail Verbier station, all the while trying to acclimate themselves to the high altitude and their unfamiliar gear and equipment.
- And they're off. For the first stage, they must use a mechanical lift, from the Grands Montets station to the summit, since the High Route only actually begins there. The relative comfort of this last little bit of civilization is a far cry from the desolate wilderness that lies ahead. But an unpleasant surprise awaits our adventurers: extremely harsh weather conditions make it impossible to cross the mountainous Chardonnet pass and to hike the 20 km across the Trient Glacier, forcing their guide to interrupt the expedition.
- Simon and his fellow adventurers are finally back on track towards the High Route. They leave the summit of Verbier station, sleeping in a cabin at Mont Fort before pressing on the next morning, towards the peaks of La Rosa Blanche. Despite worsening weather conditions, the group hopes to make it to the summit before nightfall - Will they make it?
- The group readies themselves to confront the challenge of a treacherous pass that will require seven hours of sheer effort and determination, before they can finally rest and celebrate in the rustic comforts of the Cabane des Dix. The next day is both full and challenging and has them climbing the Pigne d'Arolla, a peak of the High Route that reaches an altitude of 3900 metres.
- Our group is still swept up in the emotions of their triumphant ascent to the summit of Pigne d'Arolla. But as the saying goes, everything that goes up must come down. Simon and his companions soon begin to descend a thrilling 600 meters to the Vignettes cabin, where they spend the night. The next day, after an arduous 8 hours of working their way down the jagged mountainside, they finally reach the foot of Cervin, where they will start the final leg of their descent, the last 2200 meters through glaciers and some unforgettable stretches of dangerous but beautiful mountain country.
