Wanda Curtis and Hugh Hartley are sweethearts. Unknown to Wanda her father is on the verge of bankruptcy. Mr. Curtis appeals to Mathew Flagg, a financier, for aid. Flagg calls at the Curtis home and after seeing Wanda, tells Curtis that if she will consent to marry him, his entire fortune will be at his disposal. When the proposition is made known to Wanda she willingly makes the sacrifice to save her father. Hugh is heartbroken. Shortly after Flagg and Wanda are married, Curtis dies. Hugh goes to Wanda's home and consoles her. Flagg walks in on them and is furious. Realizing that she loves Hugh, Flagg decides to make trouble. He has a good-for-nothing twin brother, Martin, whom he summons and induces to impersonate himself in his own home. One night Flagg steals into his own home and murders his twin brother. Everybody is led to believe that it was the great Mathew Flagg who committed suicide. Wanda and Hugh then feel free to be married. On the night of their wedding a man falls from the church balcony and is killed. The bride and groom go on their way in perfect ignorance of the identity of the victim. The "unknown" is Mathew Flagg in the garb of a tramp. He had entered the church with the intent of marring the wedding, but instead had met his death.
