The whereabouts of "The Pretender" is unknown; presently, it's a lost and gone comedy-western. As "Bob Baldwin", leading man "William Desmond is an actor capable of subtleties," read the contemporary review in "Motion Picture Magazine" (February 1919), "In this story of a cow-puncher who pretends to be a school-teacher in order to keep the position for the real claimant (Joseph Franz as Percival Longstreet), who has been injured by a fall; Bill Desmond is given a chance to ride a horse, rope criminals, and do other stunts. He does them well; but, he is worthy of less obvious roles. Ethel Fleming (as Dolly) has the part opposite the star." Mr. Desmond was the magazine's #51 popular screen player for the year 1918.

**** The Pretender (10/13/18) Clifford Smith ~ William Desmond, Ethel Fleming, Joseph Franz, Joseph Singleton
