By all appearances, Joy (Annette Bening) and Stan Delaney (Sam Neill) have lived an idyllic life. Both were tennis champions in their youth and tennis coaches for decades later. Together, they founded the Delaney Tennis Academy in South Florida, where he helped at least one star pupil go on to win a Grand Slam. Now, they’ve sold the school and are entering retirement, hoping to spend as much time as possible with their four grown kids, Troy (Jake Lacy), Amy (Alison Brie), Logan (Conor Merrigan-Turner), and Brooke (Essie Randles). These are two people who spent their professional lives playing the sport they’ve always loved, and who still found romance, community, and connection at home. They have it all, and every bit of it is pretty darn good.

Charlize Theron is often front-row at tennis matches and fashion shows — but on Tuesday, she was on the court, playing doubles with No. 1 men’s player Novak Djokovic.
The Oscar winner hosted the 20th annual Desert Smash celebrity tennis tournament to support her charity, the Charlize Theron Africa Outreach Project. The organization funds community-based, locally led groups that work directly with young people in preventing gender-based violence, advocating for sexual reproductive health and rights, and providing access to higher education. For the final match, the Serbian tennis superstar made a surprise appearance, interrupting Theron’s game with Atp champion Frances Tiafoe, comedian Yvonne Orji and two-time Grand Slam winner Victoria Azarenka.

You get a great variety of top sports channels with Hulu + Live TV, but the real prize in its lineup for sports fans is free access to ESPN+.
Sports fans are well aware of the challenges they face in finding top live events. As “The Daily Show” continues its search for a full-time host to replace Trevor Noah, Chelsea Handler has just one request: let it be a woman.
During her appearance “The Tonight Show” on Wednesday night, host Jimmy Fallon fawned over Handler’s stint as guest host back in February, asking her “when are they making the move? When is Chelsea Handler takin’ over Daily Show?”
Handler has made no secret of the fact that she’s definitely interested in taking the job full time, but wouldn’t give any hints as to where she currently stands in the running. What she would say was that, in the end, she thinks Comedy Central needs to get a woman back into late night.
“Anybody in a position of power should respect the fact that we are in a moment where women are finally dominating the way that they deserve to be,” Handler said.

Coco Gauff won the 2023 U.S. Open women’s singles title this afternoon, defeating Aryna Sabalenka 2-6, 6-3, 6-2. The win marks the 19-year-old Gauff’s first Grand Slam championship and she pulled it off with a huge rally after losing the first set . She becomes the 11th teenager to ever win a Grand Slam singles title and the first American teenager to win the U.S Open since Serena Williams won the tournament in 1999.
There’s another similarity. Gauff won 3 matches in the tournament after losing the first set and battled back to eventually become U.S. Open Champion. According to ESPN, the only other woman to do that in the Open era was 17-year old Serena in 1999.
Match point was an exchange of powerful shots followed by great returns, with Gauff finally sliding a backhand by Sabalenka and collapsing to the ground in joy. Watch it below.

Tennis star Coco Gauff is on the verge of making history. The 19-year-old Gauff is the youngest American US Open female finalist since Serena Williams in 1999, and she’ll attempt to win her first Grand Slam when she takes on No. 2 seed Aryna Sabalenka in the women’s singles final. ESPN airs the match from Arthur Ashe Stadium at the Usta Billie Jean King National Tennis Center in Queens, New York, on Saturday, September 9, at 4/3c. Sixth-seeded Gauff reached the final by defeating No. 10 seed Karolina Muchova of the Czech Republic in a match that was delayed by protestors in the arena. Sabalenka advanced to the final after defeating American Madison Keys. Sabalenka has reached three straight US Open semifinals, reached the semis in every Grand Slam this year and won the 2023 Australian Open. She’ll move up world No. 1 following the tournament. New York, Sep 3 (Ians) Daniil Medvedev took a sledgehammer to Sebastian Baez’s 12-match winning streak inside Arthur Ashe Stadium late Saturday night, defeating the Argentine 6-2, 6-1 7-6(6) to power into the fourth round of the US Open.
After a subdued opening two sets, Baez took the fight to Medvedev in the third, hitting bigger forehands and coming to net 17 times, nearing the 18 total net visits he made in the first two rounds.
Baez led 5-2 in the third set but his momentum was halted by a 10-minute delay for light rain. When play resumed Medvedev broke to get back on serve at 4-5, fended off one set point in the following game, and dug out of a 0/30 hole in his next service game.
Baez made a number of tired unforced errors at key moments, including at 6/6 serving in the tie-break.
In the Round of 16, the former world no.

The entertainment industry has been effectively shut down for over 100 days now, as the Alliance of Motion Picture and Television Producers (AMPTP) has yet to negotiate a fair and equitable deal with both the Writers Guild of America (WGA) and Screen Actors Guild and American Federation of Television and Radio Artists (SAG-AFTRA), inciting the first dual strike in over 50 years. Studio heads are continuing to live comfortably off of their million-dollar salaries as striking workers are only able to pay rent thanks to generous donations to the Entertainment Community Fund and thanks to wealthy celebrities comping meals at certain establishments.
As productions and press tours are at a standstill, it's left a lot of creative folks with a lot of time on their hands. Had the AMPTP made a deal that didn't include dystopian regulations like the ability to create digital replicas of actors to use in perpetuity without compensation...

The “our next great adventure” reveal party came complete with multicoloured balloons, and a special “splash village” for their 5-year-old daughter, Olympia.

Zendaya fans who were eagerly anticipating her new movie ‘Challengers’ will have to wait a bit longer, as the film has been delayed from its original September 15, 2023 release date to April 26, 2024. The reason for the postponement is the ongoing actors and writers strikes that have affected the film industry.
‘Challengers’ is a romantic sports comedy-drama directed by Luca Guadagnino and written by Justin Kuritzkes. The film stars Zendaya as Tashi Duncan, a tennis player-turned-coach who signs up her husband and Grand Slam champion Art Donaldson (Mike Faist) for a challenger event where he will face off against her former lover Patrick (Josh O’Connor). The film explores the rivalry and attraction between the three characters on and off the court.

The film was set to premiere at the 80th Venice Film Festival as the opening night film, but it was pulled from the event by MGM due to the labor disputes.

Luca Guadagnino’s Challengers will bypass a theatrical run in France and go straight to Prime Video.
Amazon in a June 19 statement said the tennis-themed movie — which stars Zendaya, The Crown’s Josh O’Connor and West Side Story breakout Mike Faist — will launch exclusively in France on Prime Video as it skips a release in French theaters.
The announcement came as Prime Video unveiled nine new original productions for the streaming platform in France, including Le Stupéfiant Noël des Silestone, Sulak and Tigres et Hyènes, and five new acquisitions, including the second season of Coeurs Noirs.
The decision to skip a French theatrical release follows the country introducing strict windowing regulations that require a 17-month period between a film’s theatrical release and its debut on a streaming platform in France. That compares to an average window of around 45 days between theatrical release and SVOD bow in most territories worldwide.

New Delhi, June 19 (Ians) Spain’s young tennis sensation Carlos Alcaraz feels that Australian Nick Kyrgios is the most likely player to pose a threat to Novak Djokovic’s title defence at this year’s grass court major, Wimbledon, starting on July 3.
Kyrgios, who recently revealed his mental health struggles post-Wimbledon in 2019, was the losing finalist against Djokovic last year, and Alcaraz suggested the Australian was well-placed to challenge again.
“Nick Kyrgios has already played a final in Wimbledon and he’s very good on grass as well. I am not saying that I am not capable of beating Djokovic, but I think I have less chances than on other surfaces. I think that Kyrgios has more chance to defeat Djokovic than any other player,” the 20-year-old Spaniard was quoted as saying by Eurosport.

‘s-Hertogenbosch (Netherlands), June 13 (Ians) Former World No.1 Venus Williams crashed out of the Wta Libema Open here, losing to Celine Naef in an inter-generational first-round encounter between wild cards.
Naef came back from a set and a breakdown to score a memorable win on her Wta main-draw debut, beating Venus Williams 3-6, 7-6(3), 6-2 in 2 hours and 18 minutes.
Williams, 42, owns seven Grand Slam singles crowns, five of which have come at Wimbledon. Naef, 17, is a former junior No.4 who had never played a tour-level match before. The Swiss teenager was born on June 25, 2005 — midway through the third of Venus’ Wimbledon title runs. In a further wrinkle, Naef’s childhood coach was Melanie Molitor, the mother of Venus’ old rival Martina Hingis, the Wta said in a report on their website.

Paris, June 12 (Ians) After capturing the historic achievement of winning a record 23rd Grand Slam title at Roland Garros, Novak Djokovic said he doesn’t want to call himself the greatest as it will be “disrespectful towards all the great champions of different eras”.
The Serbian defeated Norway’s Casper Ruud in straight sets on Sunday to become the first player to win all four majors at least three times.
Djokovic’s title run in Paris, where he defeated Carlos Alcaraz in the semi-finals, means he will return to No. 1 in the Atp Rankings on Monday for a record-extending 388th week.
In the post-match presser, when asked, “How does it feel to be the greatest male player in history?” Djokovic said: “I don’t want to say that I am the greatest, because I feel, I’ve said it before, it’s disrespectful towards all the great champions in different...

Paris, June 11 (Ians) Novak Djokovic quelled a tough challenge from Casper Ruud to win in three sets to claim his third French Open men’s singles title and a historic 23 Grand Slam title that broke the tie with Rafael Nadal and made him the oldest player to win the title in Paris.
Djokovic came back from 1-4 in the first set to force a tie-break and then won the next two sets to prevail over his Norwegian opponent 7-6(1), 6-3, 7-5
Djokovic overcame a strong start from Ruud on Court-Philippe Chatrier to seal his historic victory. The third seed delivered a high-class tie-break display to claim a first set in which he had trailed 1-4 before producing some of his purest hitting of the fortnight in the second and third en route to a three-hour, 13-minute triumph.
With his win, the three-time Roland Garros titlist Djokovic also reclaimed the No.

Muchova lost to defending champion Swiatek in a dramatic three-set final on Saturday. Swiatek became the first woman to defend the title since Justine Henin in 2007.
Despite failing her quest for her first Grand Slam title at Roland Garros, the Czech can look back fondly on her two best weeks at a Grand Slam tournament in her career.

Paris, June 10 (Ians) World No.1 Iga Swiatek defended her women’s singles title in the French Open 2023, capturing a second consecutive Roland Garros title, and fourth Grand Slam crown overall, with a hard-fought 6-2, 5-7, 6-4 victory over a gritty Karolina Muchova here on Saturday.
Muchova of the Czech Republic fought back from 2-6, 0-3 down to make this an incredibly close final but it was the 22-year-old Swiatek who eked out the win in the end.
With this win, Poland’s Swiatek bagged her third title in French Open adding to the crowns she bagged in 2020 and 2022 and the fourth Grand Slam overall with the U.S Open she won in 2022.
Muchova has won their only previous meeting, in Prague back in 2019. At the time, Muchova (who needed a wildcard to enter the tournament) was ranked No.109 while Swiatek, who reached the main draw via qualifying, was ranked No.

Paris, June 10 (Ians) Novak Djokovic, who moved within one win of a record 23rd major trophy by defeating World No. 1 Carlos Alcaraz to reach the final at French Open, said that history is always something that’s hovering over him and he is just thinking about winning the next match.
Djokovic on Friday pulled away from the physically ailing Spaniard after a pulsating opening two sets to clinch a four-set triumph and move to the brink of history.
The Serbian will face Casper Ruud in Sunday’s final in order to move ahead of Rafael Nadal in the Grand Slam titles race.
“Pressure is always on my shoulders, so it’s not going to be different. But it’s part of my sport, part of my life, all that I do. I think that having pressure is a privilege. But it’s a source of motivation, as well. Great motivation...

Paris, June 9 (Ians) The women’s singles final of the French Open 2023 on Saturday will be fought between two players on the opposite end of the spectrum — the defending champion against the giant-killer.
The summit clash of the clay court Grand Slam will have Iga Swiatek, who is hoping to win her fourth title taking on Czech Republic’s Karolina Muchova, who is chasing her maiden Grand Slam title.
Bidding to win her third French Open title, World No.1 and defending champion Iga Swiatek of Poland is the player in form, who has reached the summit clash without losing a single set.
In contrast, No.43 Karolina Muchova has already scored upset after upset in Paris, including her three-set win against No.2 Aryna Sabalenka in the semifinals.
The question, the fans will be asking on Saturday is: Can the 26-year-old Czech maintain her perfect record against Top 3 opposition to stop Swiatek...

Paris, June 9 (Ians) Unseeded Czech Karolina Muchova clinched a spot in the first Grand Slam final of her career at French Open on Thursday, after stunning World No.2 Aryna Sabalenka 7-6(5), 6-7(5), 7-5 in a scintillating semifinal, here.
Muchova, a former Top 20 player currently ranked No.43, erased the match point while down 5-2 in the third set, then reeled off five games in a row to upset Sabalenka.
Sabalenka, who won the Australian Open earlier this year, suffered her first loss at a 2023 Grand Slam event after starting the year 12-0 at the majors. Sabalenka can still exit Paris as World No.1 if defending champion Iga Swiatek loses in the second semifinal, later in the day.
Once again, Muchova brought her best tennis when facing the world’s top-ranked players. Muchova came into the semifinal with a 4-0 win-loss record against players ranked inside the Top 3 at the time of their meeting,...

Paris, June 6 (Ians) Alexander Zverev registered a battling victory against Grigor Dimitrov and advanced to the quarter-finals of the ongoing French Open, here.
Zverev needed only three sets to move past Dimitrov on late Monday, but his 6-1, 6-4, 6-3 victory still packed plenty of drama, with the German battling back from a break down in the second set and surrendering a 3-0 lead in the third.
“I felt like at 3-0 in the third set I got very unfocused. I kind of thought the match was over before having it over, and I was not concentrating anymore, and my serve went missing a little bit, ” Zverev said post-match, explaining why he returned to the court for some serving practice.
“So I just wanted to get the feeling of having that back, because it’s going to be important for after tomorrow, I think,” he added.

Paris, May 30 (Ians) Brazilian qualifier Thiago Seyboth Wild caused a huge sensation in the French Open on Tuesday by stunning World No.2 Daniil Medvedev in a five-set thriller in the men’s singles first round at the Roland Garros.

Paris, May 28 (Ians) Novak Djokovic, who is chasing the historic and record 23rd Grand Slam trophy at the French Open, has said it’s very flattering and motivating for him.
If the Serbian triumphs in Paris, he will clinch a record 23rd Grand Slam trophy, moving one clear of Spaniard Rafael Nadal. He is relishing the opportunity to set another record when he takes to court at the clay-court major.
“It’s no secret that one of the main reasons I play today and compete in professional tennis is to try to break more records and make more history in tennis,” Djokovic said in his pre-tournament press conference.
“That’s extremely motivating and inspiring for me… History being on the line is something that is very flattering and is very motivating, no doubt about it,” he added.
The third seed Djokovic arrives in Pairs holding a 5-3 record on clay this season.

Thiem produced a clean-hitting performance against Gasquet to triumph after one hour and 29 minutes on Monday. The Austrian had lost his past five matches at this level, having defeated Marton Fucsovics in Rome in May 2021 prior to his wrist injury.
The 29-year old moved well throughout the clash and opened his shoulders to strike 18 winners. He now leads Gasquet 3-2 in their Atp Head-to-Head series, having won their past three meetings.
“At the start I played very well. It was good for me that I broke him. I was going ahead the whole match. I am pleased with the performance. Richard is in good form, he already won a tournament this year. It is always tough...

Welcome to this review of night two of WWE’s Wrestlemania 39 pay-per-view which came live from Hollywood. Let’s see what went down on Sunday’s show…
Match #1: Brock Lesnar def. Omos The following is courtesy of wwe.com:
Brock Lesnar and Omos combined for a colossal matchup to start WrestleMania 39 Sunday. No David’s were allowed; this was an official Goliath vs. Goliath contest. Entering the 12th WrestleMania match in his career, The Beast was oozing with experience, but Lesnar had yet to solve the puzzle of Omos in recent weeks. This dominance continued at the onset with Omos clobbering Lesnar. Lesnar attempted a German Suplex, but Omos broke free and slammed the 10-time world champion. In a startling image, Omos lifted Lesnar up into a bear hug, a truly shocking image given the size and strength of Lesnar. With the WWE Universe rallying behind The Beast, he...

Indian Wells (Uas), March 16 (Ians) The No.7 seed Greek player Maria Sakkari Maria Sakkari rallied from a set and a break down to defeat 15th seed Petra Kvitova 4-6, 7-5, 6-1 and advance to her second straight semifinal of the Indian Wells Masters, here.
The victory was Sakkari’s fourth consecutive three-set win in Indian Wells, with three of those wins coming from a set down. She is now the joint leader in three-set wins on tour this season, tying Anastasia Potapova with seven.
“Not only was I down a set and a break, but she made me play like an amateur in the first set. She was playing so well. I had to try and focus on different things, I had to try and look at the other side of the net to see what I could do to put her in uncomfortable positions and I think it worked.

Indian Wells (USA), March 14 (Ians) World No 1 Iga Swiatek narrowly escaped Bianca Andreescu 6-3, 7-6 (1) to reach the Round of 16 at Indian Wells Masters in breezy, heavy conditions, here.
After playing a terrific match, Andreescu couldn’t contain Swiatek in the tiebreak, losing seven of eight points on Monday night.
“She changed the rhythm pretty well and with this surface it can get tough. But I’m pretty happy I was solid most of the time, at least. And that I could be recomposed in the tiebreaker because I really knew that I could get my focus up. I’m even glad that I got a chance to kind of play under pressure some more and see how I’m going to cope with it,” Swiatek was quoted as saying by Wta.
“I feel like the vibe is similar to the US Open, so, yeah, for sure playing under pressure it’s tough,...
