Karen Dotrice will inherit a hundred million pounds unless she marries before she achieves her majority. If she does, it goes to evil stepmother Eileen Atkins. If she dies, it goes to charities. So Miss Atkins has her held at a distant location, while an actress playing her is set to be married to a man who drops dead at the altar. No problem! There are plenty of henchmen to insert into the role. But before she can do so, in rushes Malcolm McDowell with a busted Rolls Royce to foil her evil plans!
Producer Mark Shivas wanted Bette Davis as the villainess. However, she would have played it straight, so Miss Atkins is made up as Elizabeth I in a horror movie. Everyone plays it way too broad for director Clive Donner to take any of it seriously. John Cameron offers a sore played on an organ set to sound like a steam calliope. With Michael Jayston, Sara Badel, Freda Jackson, Bernard Hill, and Jonathan Lynn.
