It was in April 2023 that we first learned of plans to reboot Harry Potter for streaming and Warner Bros. Discovery has since embarked on a lengthy quest to find a creative team for the decade-long series.
Yesterday, the news broke that the show has moved from Max to the HBO cable network and we now have a confirmed showrunner, producers, and director (via SFFGazette.com).
HBO, in association with Warner Bros. Television, has named Francesca Gardiner as showrunner and executive producer, and Mark Mylod as executive producer and director of multiple episodes of the upcoming original series.
A brief logline has also been released which reads, "The series will be a faithful adaptation of the beloved 'Harry Potter' book series by author and executive producer J.K. Rowling. The ongoing identity crisis at Warner Bros. Discovery is taking another turn. Variety reports most big-budget projects coming to Max will be labeled as “HBO Originals.” When the service first launched, those streaming originals were called “Max Originals.”

Does this matter? Not really. The quality of the shows will matter far more than whatever label gets slapped on them.
HBO and Max content CEO Casey Bloys says the upcoming “Harry Potter” show, the “It” prequel series “Welcome to Derry” and the upcoming Green Lantern adaptation “Lanterns” will all get the HBO Originals tag.
Since “Potter” and “Lanterns” will be branded for HBO, they will air on linear HBO in addition to Max.
The change takes effect with shows launching in 2025, so this year’s “The Penguin” and “Dune: Prophecy,” are expected to remain as “Max originals.”

This Star Wars: The Acolyte article contains spoilers.
In The Acolyte, the unfolding story makes one thing very clear: The Jedi of the Galactic Republic may have been guardians of peace and justice, but they also caused a lot of problems by sticking their noses into other people’s Force business. While The Phantom Menace and the ensuing prequel films helped to reveal how dogmatic Jedi policies and weird bureaucracy led to galactic chaos, The Acolyte is, somewhat by accident, suggesting there’s an even bigger problem: What if there are simply too many Jedi?
On a thematic level, The Acolyte is a successful critique of the consolidated power the Jedi wield, and how their monopoly on Force knowledge led to all sorts of injustices, and, possibly, paved the way for the return of the Sith. But, on an unintended meta-fictional level, the problems of the Jedi are reinforced in The Acolyte in another way.

Is Matthew Lewis Returning To Harry Potter Reboot? (Photo Credit – Instagram)
Harry Potter’s hilarious character, Neville Longbottom aka Matthew Levis gave a decade of his life to Harry Potter, but he’s not sure if he wants to do it again. Lewis starred in all eight of the Harry Potter films and he recently told People that he’s “not in any rush to go back to the world” for the Harry Potter TV reboot that’s in the works at Max.
He explained, “The reason I got into this job in the first place was because I have a very short attention span. I am very, very poor at maintaining anything for any length of time. I’ve had many, many hobbies and passions over the years. Not a single one do I still do. I fall madly in love with things and then almost immediately forget about them.

The Harry Potter fandom is still reeling from the news about the reboot of our favorite wizarding franchise. While we know almost nothing about HBO’s upcoming series, we can speculate on how it can do justice to the original books and fix the movies’ mistakes.
Here are 6 Hp movie flaws we hope would be improved by the show.
1. Ron’s Personality Is Simplified
Indeed, “give Ron his actual lines,” as voiced by Redditor @JaguarSweaty1414. The point is Ron’s role in the movie franchise is atrociously cut down, and the show can spend more time showing that he was a highly skilled chess and Quidditch player, for example.
2. The Absence of Many Characters
Of course, it’s impossible to cover all the book characters and their lines, but the movies cut some of the important ones entirely. These include the poltergeist Peeves, the sports enthusiast Ludo Bagman, and Winky the house-elf,...

As Albus Dumbledore once said, “It does not do well to dwell on dreams…”. However, for many Harry Potter fans, the dream of a reboot of the beloved film franchise is one that they just can’t shake. Since the conclusion of the eight-movie series in 2011, speculation about a potential return to the wizarding world has been a hot topic of discussion. And really, who could blame them?

To the general audience, Yeon Sang-ho and Alfonso Cuarón are known as the directors of Train to Busan and Children of Men, respectively. Okay, if you’re a Harry Potter fan like us, you likely know Cuarón for Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban, first and foremost. The point still stands, either way: what project could get these two very different moviemakers together?
It’s Time for Unexpected Revelations
To give you some context, Yeon Sang-ho is more than just a movie director. In South Korea, he’s a well-respected multi-talent, and in this case, he decided to adapt his own webtoon, Revelations, into a movie format. The webtoon is very popular in Yeon’s home country and beyond it, and boasts a unique and compelling setting.

The Boston Celtics recently made history as they recently regained their much-deserved position in the sport: at the top of the list. After a league-best 64 wins this year, the basketball team also went on to become the champions at the NBA Finals 2024, setting the record straight after sixteen stunning years since their last win during the 2007-08 season.

A majority of the credit for such a tremendous performance at the finals is largely deserved by Jayson Tatum and Jaylen Brown, both of whom drove the team to its star-studded win. And, surprisingly enough, the determination for Tatum’s unforgettable run seems to have been driven by Heath Ledger’s performance as the Joker in The Dark Knight.

You’re a Tony winner, Daniel Radcliffe.
The actor took home the Tony Award for best performance by an actor in a featured role in a musical for Merrily We Roll Along. Radcliffe portrays lyricist and playwright Charley Kringas in the revival of Stephen Sondheim and George Furth’s 1981 musical. The original production only lasted 12 days before shutting down.
“I’m gonna just talk fast and try not to cry,” Radcliffe began his acceptance speech. “This has been one of the best experiences of my life. It’s been unbelievable.”

British filmmaker Peter Chelsom became obsessed with photography at the age of 13 after his father gifted him a Kodak Retinette 1B camera for his birthday. “Suddenly everything became photography,” says the veteran director of films like 2001’s Serendipity, starring John Cusack and Kate Beckinsale and the 2004 Jennifer Lopez-starrer Shall We Dance. “I was obsessed with it. And that’s why I became a filmmaker.”

Jaylen Brown, one of the mainstays of the Boston Celtics, discovered an enchanting way to fly into the NBA (National Basketball Association) Finals: binge-watching the Harry Potter film series during a 10-day break. That being said, have you ever thought that the magic of the big screen could cast a charm on his pre-game prep?
Well, while fellow players might have spent idle days with family & friends, Brown, self-professedly single, dedicated over 19 hours to the wizarding world, perhaps finding parallels between the on-screen heroics & his own athletic conquests.

More surprisingly, Brown is more enamored with Dumbledore and diligent Hermione than he is with Harry Potter. Sorry, Daniel Radcliffe, but the aforementioned two characters are rising to the top of his list of favorites.

The editing room is a brutal battlefield, and sometimes, many great scenes were cut off from the final version just like what happened to Rik Mayall. Yes, he was originally in the Harry Potter movie, but his scene was cut off. The worst part here was he took his children to the premiere expecting they would watch their father on the big screen.

As children, it would have been the greatest thing in the world – to watch the first ever Harry Potter movie and see your dad portray a beloved role. Apparently, the late comedian could not bear to tell them the truth.

Harry Potter is one of the biggest movie franchises of all time and has earned millions worldwide. This year, the third installment in the franchise, Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban, turns 20, and we are here to take a quick look at the Daniel Radcliffe, Emma Watson, and Rupert Grint starrer fantasy drama. Keep scrolling for more.
It is based on Jk Rowling’s fantasy novel. In this movie, Harry and his friends enter their teenage years, and things get grittier from then on. This third installment has a darker tone than the previous two installments. For the uninitiated, there are eight films in the Harry Potter series, and the first one was released in the theatres in 2001.
Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban was released in domestic theatres on June 4, 2004; this year, it turns 20. It is reportedly the fan-favorite installment, but unfortunately, it is the lowest-grossing Harry Potter movie.

Alfonso Cuarón knew he wanted franchise installment “Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban” to be different from the other “Potter” films. So the professor assigned his Hogwarts, Ravenclaw, Slytherin, and Hufflepuff students some homework.
The director wanted the 2004 “Harry Potter” feature to have a “noir” tone, which Cuarón believed would best present the coming-of-age moment for both the trio of characters played by Daniel Radcliffe, Emma Watson, and Rupert Grint, as well as for the film series itself.
Cuarón was the first new director to step in after Chris Columbus directed the first two films.
“Chris [Columbus] would help them with intonation and get them excited; Alfonso was treating them as young adults: what are you feeling?” the franchise’s producer David Heyman recalled to Total Film for a 20th-anniversary retrospective interview.
Part of getting the core cast to grow up onscreen was to have each actor meditate on their respective characters’ motivations.

Harry Potter is undoubtedly one of the best books ever to be written and the best fantasy movies ever to have been made. Everything from the visuals to the storyline, the production beautifully captured the very essence of the books and literally brought magic to the big screen. While it was Jk Rowling and her touch that ultimately made the movies successful, it was also the persistence and determination of the young cast members that made the movies a beloved part of cinema today.

The golden trio of the Harry Potter franchise Daniel Radcliffe, Emma Watson, and Rupert Grint carried the popular film franchise for 8 films from 2001 to 2011. From Philosopher’s Stone to The Deathly Hallows Part 2, the franchise interestingly changed hands with four directors, ensuring a sense of freshness and distinct style within the films.

When Alfonso Cuarón got the call to direct Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban, arguably one of the best movies in the franchise, he was very unsure about it. The director was fresh out of an acclaimed erotic road trip drama Y tu mamá también and the sudden shift to a Harry Potter movie without having virtually no clues about it was not a cakewalk for the director.

To call the Harry Potter movies iconic would even be an understatement, but they’ve never been without their fair share of problems. Among the biggest ones is the movies’ treatment of all characters who aren’t Hermione Granger — and some of the most beloved book characters suffered massively from such an attitude.
Sirius Black has always been a fan favorite, and his movie version, while wildly different from the books, was great thanks to Gary Oldman’s acting brilliance. The actor himself, however, heavily dislikes his performance there for one simple reason.
Gary Oldman Hates His Sirius Black Acting
Despite Gary Oldman’s Sirius Black not being even remotely similar to the original book character, most Potterheads have no qualms about it, loving both versions simultaneously. But the actor himself revealed that he found his own portrayal of Black underwhelming at best, raising many eyebrows around the world.

For me, the news that Alfonso Cuarón was helming "Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban" was exciting. At the time, I only knew him for directing the thoroughly enchanting and visually splendiferous 1995 film version of "A Little Princess." As for everyone else? They were trying to make heads or tails of why the guy behind the indubitably erotic 2001 Mexican road trip drama "Y tu mamá también" had been hired by Warner Bros. to work on its golden goose (which really needs to cut ties with its transphobic creator already).
Cuarón was as baffled as anyone else when WB approached him. "I was confused because it was completely not on my radar," he explained to Total Film. "A Little Princess," while critically well-received, had barely made a dent at the box office, while the director's 1998 mid-budget modern-set retelling of Charles Dickens' "Great Expectations" was an outright flop. Sounds like Daniel Radcliffe won’t be returning to Hogwarts anytime soon.
The “Harry Potter” alum, who last appeared in the title role when he closed out the film franchise with “Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 2,” told E! News that he and his fellow original actors will probably not appear in the upcoming “Harry Potter” series being developed at Max.
“Like the rest of the world, [I’m] very excited to watch as an audience member,” Radcliffe said, before adding an “I don’t think so” as to whether he will make a cameo.
“I think they very wisely want to [have] a clean break,” Radcliffe continued. “And I don’t know if it would work to have us do anything in it.”
Radcliffe punted on whether or not Max approached him to star in the series, which is slated to premiere in 2026.

Twenty years after its theatrical release, Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban is still an undeniable leader of all the surveys that aim to find out which one of Harry Potter’s movies is the best.
The franchise’s third installment is constantly praised for setting the tone to the rest of the films that would come along later. The Harry Potter films were absolutely magical and the cast members had a huge role in making them so. Every single character was so perfectly cast that it would often be difficult to know where the actor ends and where the character begins. From Maggie Smith’s Professor McGonagall to Emma Watson’s Hermione Granger, all these characters hold a special part in our hearts.

However, Maggie Smith once revealed that she didn’t find her role as Minerva McGonagall, the Transfiguration professor, to be satisfying. She simply didn’t feel as if she was really acting in Harry Potter as well as the historical drama, Downton Abbey. The actress also complained about having to wear huge and heavy hats for her role as Minerva.

The deaths of Dumbledore, Sirius Black, and Remus Lupin were some of the most shocking and heartbreaking moments of the Harry Potter franchise. These deaths were not only some of the saddest moments in the books but also left their impact on Harry’s life, in one way or another.

Oldman might’ve found playing Sirius Black a bit more surface-level than his usual characters. Way back in 2004, he was pretty upfront that he only took the role because it was available work. The Harry Potter franchise’s appeal to kids was also a bonus seeing as Oldman had a family of his own.
“Well, I needed the work – that’s the honest answer,” Oldman once told The Telegraph (via Hpana). “I haven’t worked for a while, a couple of years. So I thought it would be nice to get back to work and earn some money. Pay the bills.

“What I meant by that was, as any artist or any actor or painter, you are always hypercritical of your own work,” Oldman said when asked about his comments at a Cannes press conference promoting his new movie, Parthenope. “If you’re not, and you’re satisfied with what you’re doing — that would be death to me.

On Wednesday at the Cannes press conference for Parthenope, actor Gary Oldman was asked about throwing his performance as Sirius Black in Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban under the bus.
Toward the end of last year, Oldman told Happy Sad Confused podcast host Josh Horowitz that he thought his work as Black was “mediocre.”
The Oscar winner said at the time, “Maybe if I had read the books like Alan [Rickman], if I had got ahead of the curve, if I had known what’s coming, I honestly think I would have played it differently.”
Oldman had a word for Potter fans today: He means no harm.
Oldman said he didn’t mean to “disparage anyone out there who are fans of Harry Potter and the films and the character who I think is much beloved.”

Even though the Harry Potter fever is going to be with us for a long time, and it’s supported by the upcoming HBO series, there are some moments that aren’t talked about enough. While discussing the most iconic scenes of the wizards’ saga, the fandom forgets the ones which also reveal the characters’ nature and their relationships.
Here are 4 of the most neglected scenes of the whole Hp franchise.
The Sorcerer's Stone - The Troll
The first installment of the movie series is quick to show us that the notorious school of Witchcraft and Wizardry is not the safest place on Earth. Then it shows the first scary creature threatening the characters - a nasty troll entering the girls' bathroom, where Hermione ends up. It is this very fight against the monster that binds the franchise’s trio and marks the beginning of their adventures in the world of magic.

Throughout the years of its existence, Harry Potter’s movie franchise proved itself to be a bit inaccurate regarding some characters’ portrayal which radically differed from the way they were presented in J.K. Rowling’s books.
Though the notion that it should be really hard to cram all of the books’ possible details into a two-hour-long film still makes a lot of sense, Harry Potter’s films still unwillingly suffered from losing several major storylines’ development, and one of them has a direct influence on Harry’s family background.
The main character’s personal tragic story got a chance for its expansion in Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban when Harry was finally introduced to Sirius Black. Initially thinking of him as a reckless criminal, Harry later on finds out that he was quite delusional in his suspicions about Sirius who turned out to be his father’s closest friend.
