She-Hulk: Attorney at Law star Tatiana Maslany does not recommend fans hold out hope for a Season 2 of the Disney+ series.
So far, the only live-action MCU Disney+ original series to be renewed for a Season 2 has been Loki.
However, many of these shows — The Falcon and the Winter Soldier, Moon Knight, Ms. Marvel, etc. — ended with just enough loose ends to pick up from if a second season were to happen.

It’s been a tumultuous week for Marvel Studios. Over on Disney+, the studio wrapped up almost a decade-and-a-half of Loki storytelling with a critically acclaimed second season finale for the God of Mischief. At the same time, their latest big screen offering The Marvels was flopping hard in theaters. There are complex reasons for the latter’s box office failure, and while many fans may assume that at least Loki must have been a huge success, viewing figures released by Disney+ indicate some mixed results for the show’s second season.
According to Disney+ (via The Hollywood Reporter), Loki kept a fairly consistent viewing base throughout season two, with the first episode fetching 10.9 million views globally, and the finale snagging 11.2 million views. The streamer also noted that each episode achieved more than 11 million views during the week it debuted.

If there is one constant in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, it is that Kevin Feige and the powers that be never let fans go too long without a visit from the devilishly charming God of Mischief. It’s been two years since Tom Hiddleston’s Loki first introduced fans to the possibility of the multiverse through variants, the Time Variance Authority and Jonathan Majors’ He Who Remains in “Loki” Season 1. Since then, we’ve seen Peter Parker (Tom Holland) recreate the famous multiple Spider-Man meme, Doctor Strange (Benedict Cumberbatch) traverse the multiverse to defeat Scarlet Witch (Elizabeth Olsen) and Majors portray a Kang variant known for conquering the Quantum Realm in “Ant-Man and The Wasp: Quantumania.”
All of this is to say that it’s nearly time for our regularly scheduled visit from everyone’s favorite mischief maker. So ahead of “Loki” Season 2, here are five things you need to...

Which is the better franchise, Star Wars or Marvel? Ask that question and legions of internet users will rush in with their answers, citing anecdotes, posting screenshots, and deploying withering memes. But we may have a more scientific way of deciding, as The Hollywood Reporter has released the Nielsen ratings for shows on Disney+.
At first glance, it would appear that Star Wars takes the top spot, as The Mandalorian has proven to be the most popular show on Disney+. In 2021, 14.5 billion minutes of the show were watched by subscribers, mostly during season two’s eight-week run. Not even the highest-ranking MCU show could come close to that, with the Thor spin-off Loki drawing only 5.23 billion minutes of viewing time last year. Of course, the number of potential episodes affects these numbers. While The Mandalorian has 16 episodes across its two seasons, Loki has only had one six-episode season. When watch...

When Marvel fans noticed that scenes from The Falcon and the Winter Solider were edited down from the original version, many wondered if the streamer was quietly censoring more violent content on the platform.
But it looks like that alternate version was uploaded by mistake. Sources tell TVLine that those censored scenes were published accidentally as part of a version control issue. Disney+ is working on fixing the problem as quickly as possible.

Exclusive: Shudder has locked down rights to the critically acclaimed feature Mad God, directed by two-time Academy Award-winning artist, animator and filmmaker Phil Tippett. The experimental animated project 30 years in the making will hit limited theaters and debut on AMC Network’s premium service for genre fare on June 16.
In Mad God, a corroded diving bell descends amidst a ruined city, with an Assassin emerging from it to explore a labyrinth of bizarre landscapes inhabited by freakish denizens. The inspiration for the film came to Tippett, whose VFX work can be seen in such legendary films as Star Wars, RoboCop and Starship Troopers, during a lull in his schedule following RoboCop 2.
After sketching and designing a few creatures and sets, he and his stage and stop-motion team at Tippett Studio shot the film’s first few scenes, then suspending work on the project to focus on creating the groundbreaking effects for Jurassic Park.

A new chapter of the Marvel Cinematic Universe is beginning with the arrival of Moon Knight, a show (and indeed a superhero) unlike any other. The series is the first Marvel project to arrive on the small screen since the Jeremy Renner-starring Hawkeye bowed last December, and it certainly looks like it will be one to watch for MCU fans and newbies alike.
Moon Knight is only the first of many new Phase 4 releases planned for 2022. Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness will hit theaters in May, Ms. Marvel will debut on Disney+ in June, Thor: Love and Thunder is heading for a July opening, and we should also see the likes of She-Hulk and What If…? Season 2 emerge later in the year. Marvel’s Black Panther: Wakanda Forever, which has experienced production issues, may yet be pushed back to 2023.

This feature contains spoilers for the established MCU.
The different phases of the Marvel Cinematic Universe seem to break up the existence of the Avengers as a group. Phase 1 was about building the Avengers into a team, culminating in them assembling and saving the world. Phase 2 was about the Avengers fortifying their world to the point that everyone seemed to be on the cusp of a happy ending…until Ultron happened. Phase 3 was about the repeated destruction of the Avengers, starting with political differences, then going to personal anger, being discarded by an alien threat they weren’t ready for, being reduced to ash by a cosmic wish, and finally being shattered by their greatest victory.
Phase 3 actually ended with the post-credits to Spider-Man: Far From Home in a perfectly fitting scene. Talos asked Nick Fury about the existence of the Avengers going forward and didn’t get any answer.

The Marvel Cinematic Universe has managed to pull off a lot of truly impressive feats over the course of its decade-long march to pop culture domination. Superhero stories are cool now, and even the most casual of viewers are pretty well versed in things like chaos magic, multiverses, and Infinity Stones. Yet, despite its many successes, the MCU still struggles in several of the key areas that make comic book stories so compelling. For the most part, it’s still pretty bad at telling love stories and it’s got a lot of female characters it doesn’t always know what to do with. But the fact that it still has such lame villains is one of the most frustrating parts of the franchise.
Obviously, not every Big Bad can be Thanos, and the arrival of characters like Black Panther’s Killmonger, Spider-Man: Far From Home’s Mysterio, and Shang-Chi...

To say expectations for “Hawkeye” were a bit low is probably an understatement. It’s not all that fair — the Marvel Cinematic Universe had done little before now to make fans care about the character of Clint Barton — but when you look at it another way, it just means the newest Marvel series to hit Disney+ has been a pleasant surprise for a lot of people.
Starring Jeremy Renner as a hard-of-hearing Barton and Hailee Steinfeld as the 22-year-old Kate Bishop, an overly enthusiastic protégée the Avenger reluctantly takes under his wing after she finds herself in a dangerous situation, “Hawkeye” is a joyful Christmas romp. It brings the former’s past as the violent vigilante Ronin to the forefront of the story as it pits the mismatched pair against the Tracksuit Mafia. However, they’re not the only obstacle standing in Barton’s way right now. He must also...

“Hawkeye” has only gotten better since its two-episode premiere. After an outing devoted to showcasing its action bona fides, the Marvel series reached a turning point in more ways than one in its fourth episode, “Partners, Am I Right?” Not only did we finally return to the vintage Rolex from the black market auction that set much of the show in motion, but the series started tackling Clint’s (Jeremy Renner) lingering trauma as a result of Natasha’s (Scarlett Johansson) death in “Avengers: Endgame” (2019). The result is a mixture of exciting fight scenes, poignant character moments, and a boozy Christmas movie marathon with Kate (Hailee Steinfeld) that gave us Jeremy Renner in an ugly cat sweater. We’re so lucky.

Exclusive: Following the massive success of directing Marvel series The Falcon and the Winter Soldier, Kari Skogland looks to have found her next film project and will be teaming up with another superhero star in the process. Sources tell Deadline that Skogland is set to direct Paramount’s Cleopatra, starring Gal Gadot.
Skogland steps in for Patty Jenkins, who was attached to direct and is pivoting to a producing role. Jenkins fell off as director so she could focus on her next two projects: Wonder Woman 3 and Star Wars: Rogue Squadron.
Paramount won the rights to the hot package last fall to the biographical drama scripted by Laeta Kalogridis. The film will be produced by Atlas Entertainment’s Charles Roven, Jenkins, Gadot and her Pilot Wave Motion Pictures partner Jaron Varsano. Kalogridis will be the exec producer.
Cleopatra is the daughter of Ptolemy, ancestor of the leader of Alexander the Great’s army.

If there is one character in the Marvel Cinematic Universe who deserves to be the center of their own series so we can learn more about them, it’s Jeremy Renner’s Clint Barton, aka Hawkeye. An original Avenger whose main skill is that he knows his way around a bow and arrow, Clint has been around since Phase One and yet we still know shockingly little about him outside of his close friendship with Natasha Romanoff (Scarlett Johansson) and that he has a secret family only a few people knew about prior to the events of “Avengers: Age of Ultron” (2015).
Debuting Wednesday, Nov. 24 with two episodes on Disney+, the six-episode “Hawkeye” will attempt to fill in the gaps in Clint’s story the way this summer’s “Black Widow” gave Nat a complete backstory (and revealed what happened in Budapest). The show is the fourth live-action Marvel series to...

Over the past two months, "What If...?" has proven to be the most inconsistent production in Marvel Studios' history. While Marvel's other shows, like "WandaVision" and "The Falcon and The Winter Soldier," maintained a singular tone and told one story over their runs, meaning that casual viewers could get an idea of what the series was about from a single episode, "What If...?" is an entirely different beast. For better or for worse, each episode provides a different experience. That leads to some read duds. On the other hand, it also makes it much easier to determine which alternate-universe romp reigns supreme.

Sources tell Deadline that Mackie is set to star in and executive produce Sony Pictures Television and PlayStation Productions’ Twisted Metal, a live-action adaptation of the popular video game. Mackie will play the lead role of John Doe in the half-hour live-action TV series, and insiders say Sony TV and PlayStation Productions are extremely high on the package and a plan is in the works to take it to buyers soon.
“We’re thrilled to have Anthony Mackie on board. His ability to blend comedy, action and drama is perfect for the Twisted world we’re creating,” said Asad Qizilbash, head of PlayStation Productions.

Vera Farmiga’s brief appearance in the trailer for Disney+’s new Hawkeye series certainly set the speculation train alight. “Who could she possibly be playing?” “She looks pretty evil.”
Good news: she’s playing Eleanor Bishop, Kate’s mom; she is in fact pretty evil; and she doesn’t appear to have a whit of ’80s frumpy ex-nun to her character. She’s just going to be a wealthy, amoral jerk. And also maybe a vampire.
Who Is Eleanor Bishop?
Eleanor has a place in Kate’s story going back to her earliest days – she’s mentioned in Young Avengers Special #1 in 2006, shortly after Kate was created by Allan Heinberg and Jim Cheung. Eleanor is the wife of Manhattan publishing magnate Derek Bishop, but she was estranged from him and frequently off cavorting around the world before she died mysteriously on a skiing trip in Boulder, Colorado.

Disney+ had a surprise in its quiver for Marvel Cinematic Universe fans on Monday: a full-length trailer for its upcoming Hawkeye series.
Though the team-up of Jeremy Renner’s Clint Barton and Hailee Steinfeld’s Kate Bishop was previously teased in an episodic photo back in July, the above trailer offers a more detailed preview of their relationship, which begins when Barton unmasks Kate as a headline-making hooded vigilante. Described as “equally as annoying as she is charismatic,” Kate “will bring about a slew of problems that Barton will then have to wrestle with,” the logline describes.

Through much of 2021, streaming service Disney+ has been Marvel’s domain. That’ll happen when you premiere WandaVision, The Falcon and The Winter Soldier, Loki, and What If…? within eight months of one another. With the Disney+ list of new releases for September 2021, however, Disney’s other big franchise is striking back.
Star Wars: Visions is set to premiere all seven installments on Wednesday, September 22. This project is a collection of 7 animated short films all from renowned Japanese studios. As you can see by this first teaser, it could be rad. These seven shorts should also make the wait for The Mandalorian season 3 and The Book of Boba Fett even easier.
While Marvel’s What If…? continues on this month, the only other major Disney+ original to premiere in September is Doogie Kamealoha, M.D. As you might be able to guess from the name, this is a reboot of the sitcom Doogie Howser,...

The recent horrors in Afghanistan have once more exposed the callousness with which too many residents of Europe and the U.S. speak of refugees, whereby displaced human lives become numbers, coldly counted and ranked on a long list of national priorities: not people to be saved, but problems to be solved. If there’s room for them at all, that’s all the reward one dare ask for. To bring up other human needs, of emotional or intellectual fulfilment beyond a roof to sleep under, is to be ungracious in the eyes of the media and the privileged public.
But man cannot survive on survival alone, a point that Serbian director Stefan Arsenijević’s modern refugee fable “As Far As I Can Walk” makes with hushed, heartbroken clarity. A portrait of a Ghanaian refugee couple settled — practically, if not spiritually — in a shabby but serviceable Serbian camp, it begins...

(This article contains minor spoilers for “Black Widow,” and will also reference the events of “The Falcon and the Winter Soldier.”)
While Natasha Romanoff herself is certainly the main character in “Black Widow” — out now in theaters and on Disney+ — nobody makes a more effective effort to steal the show than David Harbour’s Alexei Shostakov, better known as the super soldier Red Guardian. Alexei played the role of Natasha’s father in the 1990s when the two of them, along with Yelena (Florence Pugh) and Melina (Rachel Weisz), lived in the U.S. as a “The Americans”-style spy family.
While they aren’t actually related, Natasha spends a big chunk of “Black Widow” reassembling that family in order to take down the Red Room, where the three women of the family were all mutilated and conditioned as children. In the middle of all this, Alexei tells an interesting...

This article contains Black Widow spoilers.
When we finally catch up with Alexei Shostakov (David Harbour) in the Russian prison where he’s been idling for years, he’s reliving his glory days in the midst of dealing with a string of arm wrestling contenders. Marvel’s Black Widow has already shown us just how strong Alexei is during its long, Ohio-set opening, so we know that the man who was once Russia’s answer to Captain America is going to win every single one of these bouts.
As Red Guardian, Alexei even had his own action figure, and although he’s now pretty out of shape the super soldier is more than a match for any of the younger and more ripped inmates who hope to challenge him. While a collection of men excitedly watch Alexei peacock his strength, he even brags about the time he beat Captain America.

This article contains Massive spoilers for Marvel’s Black Widow
We had to wait a long time for Black Widow. Marvel and Disney’s Phase 4 solo film for Natasha Romanoff (Scarlett Johansson) was originally set to be released back in May of 2020 but, well, we all know what happened next, so this summer finally brought us our first Premier Access MCU film. Luckily Black Widow was worth the wait.
It’s an action-packed installment that introduces a slew of new characters we’ll likely see again in future MCU films and Disney+ shows. One of those is the highly anticipated Marvel Comics villain Taskmaster, who can mimic any fighting style. You’ve heard of people who have a photographic memory, but Taskmaster has photographic reflexes and in Black Widow we see the character perfectly copy the moves of Hawkeye, Captain America, Black Panther, and even Natasha herself, making them a formidable adversary.

Welcome to Emmy Experts Typing, a weekly column in which Gold Derby editors and Experts Joyce Eng and Christopher Rosen discuss the Emmy race — via Slack, of course. This week, with nominations days away, we share our no guts, no glory picks.
Christopher Rosen: Hello, Joyce! We’re typing one last time before the Emmy nominations are announced next week, and rather than provide some final predictions, I’d like us to make earnest pleas to the universe for long-shot nominees we hope make the cut. Allow me to start with one of my favorite performances of the last year, although one that has been overlooked by a number of showier roles on the same show: Teyonah Parris on “WandaVision.” It’s arguable she’s the most relatable character not named Darcy on the Marvel breakout limited series, even as she slowly morphs into an honest-to-goodness superhero. Marvel finally returns to theaters with Black Widow, a retroactive passing of the torch for the title character. While it comes out several years after Natasha Romanoff’s death in Avengers: Endgame, it gives Scarlett Johansson’s character one last hurrah in prequel form while introducing us to her adopted sister and replacement Yelena Belova, as played by Florence Pugh.
For those who choose to watch the Marvel Cinematic Universe movies in chronological order (as opposed to the recommended release order), it’s important to remember to skip the post-credits scenes. When you’re starting with Captain America: The First Avenger, you probably don’t need to see that teaser for The Avengers. When you move to Captain Marvel, seeing it suddenly jump to the beginning of Avengers: Endgame can be jarring. Black Widow continues the trend by...

After being delayed by more than a year, Marvel’s “Black Widow” is finally coming to theaters on Friday, while Disney+ subscribers can catch the superhero theatrics from the comfort of their own home that same day. The standalone film, which follows Scarlett Johansson’s spy and founding Avengers member Natasha Romanoff, is the definition of long-awaited and highly anticipated. Directed by Cate Shortland, the film was meant to launch the fourth phase of the Marvel Cinematic Universe in May 2020, but the real world had other plans, and it’s now following in the footsteps of the Disney+ series “WandaVision,” “The Falcon and The Winter Soldier” and “Loki.”

If there’s one lesson we’ve learned from the 13 years we’ve spent watching the films of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, it’s not to underestimate Tom Hiddleston’s Loki. Everyone’s favorite cunning and charismatic God of Mischief has escaped death a couple of times now in the course of his decade-long tenure in the MCU. Fans of subversive genre shows have high hopes for Amazon Prime’s anti-superhero series “The Boys” at this year’s Emmys. The gruesome and violent but often very funny series, which was adapted for TV by Eric Kripke (“Supernatural”) and is based on the Garth Ennis and Darick Robertson comic book of the same name, has been well received by critics and viewers alike. Starring Karl Urban, Jack Quaid, Erin Moriarty and Antony Starr, “The Boys” imagines a world in which super-powered individuals like Moriarty’s Starlight and Starr’s Homelander are controlled, marketed and exploited by a powerful corporation while many aren’t even the benevolent heroes they’re depicted to be in the media.
