Before Empire Strikes Back was decided upon as a follow up the original Star Wars, Splinter of the Mind's Eye was commissioned as a low budget sequel if one of the biggest films of all times tanked. Check out the embedded video for a breakdown of the story in motion comic form to get an idea of how it would have turned out. You may be shocked to know this but George Lucas had a contingency plan in the event that the original Star Wars was a flop at the box office. This sequel was about as low budget as you can get and was titled Splinter of the Mind's Eye. The film ended up becoming a novel and among other things lacked Han Solo and had a ton of sexual tension between Luke and Leia.

The Good Wife is taking us inside Alicia Florrick's (Julianna Margulies) head and it is an interesting place. In the Sunday, March 8, episode, "Mind's Eye," Alicia preps for a big interview and co-creators Robert and Michelle King take us inside the character's mind as she preps for the big day and, well, her mind is a weird/wonderful/sexy place. In the sneak peek clip below, Alicia gets a call from her campaign manager, Johnny (Steven Pasquale), and while talking to him her mind wanders. Alicia wants some. You know what we mean by some. But it isn't just a fantasy about Johnny! Finn (Matthew Goode) gets in there too. Yes, we're screaming with you. Will Alicia be able to get...

Everyone knows there's a certain amount of animosity between Star Wars and Star Trek fans. The rivalry was even touched on in 2009's Fanboys, which served as a love letter to George Lucas and his space saga. Many people on both sides of the science fiction fence were surprised when they heard J.J. Abrams was taking the reins of both franchises.
However, he's not the first person to tackle both the Star Wars and Star Trek Universes simultaneously. Author Alan Dean Foster walked that thin ice decades before Abrams did. Not only did Foster ghost write the original Star Wars novelization and help George Lucas flesh out that galaxy, but he also penned the story for Star Trek: The Motion Picture. Some would argue he was instrumental in kick starting Star Wars and reviving Star Trek almost simultaneously.

This year marks the 33rd Anniversary of the release of The Empire Strikes Back. Thanks to the success of Star Wars, George Lucas went on to make five sequels to the movie and create one of the greatest space sagas ever. However, what if Star Wars hadn't been as successful as it ended up being?
What if the film now referred to as Episode IV: A New Hope only found a niche crowd of sci-fi devotees? One thing I can assure you is Lucas wasn't ready to just hang up his dreams of exploring a galaxy far, far away. It would have just been on a much smaller budget with a simpler story.
Science Fiction writer Alan Dean Foster was hired by Lucas to ghost write a novelization of his Star Wars movie to release before the film hit theaters in 1977. What many people don't know is that Foster was...

From the Commodore 64 to the modern day, check out 35 of videogaming's best ever soundtracks (and listen to them here...)
Games are often praised for their amazing visuals, deep, complex gameplay and well-written narrative, but music is also a big part of the media. Just as it forms an essential part of any movie's atmosphere, games need the right soundtrack in order to fully immerse the player into the game world. A rousing audio track can stir the emotions, properly relay the heroic nature of a protagonist, or instil fear when needed.
Games soundtracks are, arguably, much more important than other media, as the player is the star, in full control of the action. Whilst music in movies is hugely important, in a game the audio doesn't just accompany the visuals, but has to pair up perfectly with the player's actions and the events onscreen...

After thirty years, three terrible prequels and acres of spin-off material, the "Star Wars" brand has been somewhat tarnished. The fans are still legion, but it's become harder and harder to get excited about the series, and the highlights drift further and further from memory. That being said, we'll always a place for the original trilogy in our hearts, and much of that comes down to the second (or fifth) installment, 1980's "The Empire Strikes Back" Despite the success of the original, creator George Lucas seemed to have taken some of the criticism to heart, a took a back seat for the follow-up, handing over the directorial reins to his old film school professor Irvin Kershner ("The Eyes of Laura Mars," "The Flim-Flam Man") and hiring veteran screenwriter Leigh Brackett and bright young thing Lawrence Kasdan, who'd come to fame thanks to his as-yet-unmade scripts for "The Bodyguard" and "Continental Divide.

What if your pocket video camera had the intelligence to figure out that the sportscar you're recording as it zips down the street is accelerating and not about to stop? What if it could sense that the person standing in front of the car might get run over if he doesn't move? It's not as far-fetched as it sounds, at least in the world of the Pentagon's Defense Advanced Research Research Projects Agency (Darpa).
Darpa's just-launched Mind's Eye program aims to develop visual intelligence for unmanned systems. Once perfected, the agency anticipates that such systems could perform ground surveillance in military operations--a job currently relegated to Army scouts and Marine Corps Force Reconnaissance troops.
Darpa explains:

We here at Geeks of Doom love our sci-fi movies like Star Wars and Star Trek, but another thing we love is parodies of these movie franchises. May I introduce to you Blue Milk Special, a Star Wars comic strip parody site. Not only does this site do parodies of the events in the films, but it also spoofs all the Expanded Universe titles and characters. The featured strip for this month is the Splinter of the Mind's Eye, which is currently up to part 12.
While this site, like the site Motion Picture Comics, parodies this beloved series, it does pay tribute to it at the same time and makes us ask questions like, "How is Darth Vader able to drink coffee?" Not only does this site poke fun at mainstream characters it also brings the secondary characters to the spotlight by giving us a little insight in their lives.

A political radical, as an actor he excelled at playing tortured establishment figures
Corin Redgrave, who has died aged 70, was both a formidable actor and a strenuous political activist. But, while it is fashionably easy to suggest that his career was blighted by his political activities, I suspect his talent was intimately related to his radical political convictions. And, if he enjoyed a golden theatrical rebirth from the late 1980s onwards, it may have had less to do with politics than with his determination to inherit the mantle of his revered father. Before he suffered a severe heart attack in 2005, Redgrave's later years yielded some of his finest work.
Redgrave was born, in London, into the theatrical purple. His father, Sir Michael, was both a great classical actor and a popular film star; his mother, Rachel Kempson, was also a distinguished actor. Educated at Westminster school, Redgrave won a scholarship to King's College,...

Fathers. You can't live with them, but you can't deal with them either. Oh nor can you live without them. Forgot about that one. Tonight's Men of a Certain Age focused on the notions of fathers as they inspire us, embarrass us, or make the transition into manhood somewhat easier for us. The episode that I have been waiting was delivered, because I simply don't know how to deal with my dad at times, so did I learn anything tonight? Let's find out…
Set Up
Norm's Diner is where we lay our scene this week. Owen opens up about having his sex life interrupted by a Thoreau Chevorlet commercial that upset Melissa, because in it Owen Sr. made it seem like Marcus was his son, instead of Owen, who was nowhere in the commercial. We then move onto Joe, who mentions that he will be visiting his father Artie that weekend.

(S01E03) If there was any doubt that this show's goal was too be completely authentic and realistic, I think a discussion about how many creams Owen uses on his ass just about seals the deal. I can only imagine what the waitress thinks of the bits and pieces she overhears of the boys' various conversations. But it does make it perfectly clear why that diner table has become the symbol of the show.
These boys have been a part of each other's lives for so long now that they're family. The fact that they're able to have conversations like we see each week, that certainly go deeper and more intimate than most "guy" friendships would ever be allowed, is a testament to that.

Last night on Moaca, the theme for our Three Musketeers was character, which was given to us on various levels that I labeled them: heartwarming, understandable, and a complete a waste of one character's time. But as a whole, the episode worked well by showing the guys taking control of their lives for once instead of letting things crumble, bitch, or just gestate around them. So without further adieu, here is the recap for "Mind's Eye".
The Set Up
Joe
After golfing with his son Albert, Joe is shocked to hear his son asking about the Mile High Club. While Joe stutters around the subject, Albert is already hipped to the game and deduces that it means sex. Joe is then confused when Albert says he didn't get on the bus when Joe dropped him off for a field trip, which makes Joe worry about Albert's mind state when Albert...

Whether, it Is the hot new TNT comedy or a sad drama about the reality of middle aged life, Men of a Certain Age is definitely one show that will capture your heart. In Men of a Certain Age Episode 3, "Mind's Eye," Joe tries to connect better with his son, Albert, by teaching him golf. But when the school golf team is ready to compete in a tournament, Albert is reluctant to get on the bus.
